Every year the class is growing. Five years ago, we could not imagine that so many athletes would participate in all-Russian regattas. It is very important that the upcoming championship of Russia was held at a high level. As part of the championship, we plan to hold a coaching council and a meeting of the Presidium of the Optimist Association, discuss selection criteria, appoint a new executive director of the Association and solve a number of pressing issues ahead of the winter training season.

      Monaco Yacht Club has completed the 10th jubilee regatta Monaco Optimist Team Race

Denis Razumovich reports: “The trip turned out to be useful from the point of view of experience. Now in Russia, not a single team regatta is held, therefore it is possible to hone skills in “combat” conditions only at such competitions.

We started off quite well, on the first day, January 10, we had 5 races, scored 3 wins and suffered 2 defeats: we lost to the current European champions and the Swedes who became 4 Belgians in 2018 in Monaco.

On the second day, they beat the Finns, the winners of the regatta last year. After that, the wind weakened and a wave arose, the participants returned to the shore.

The 3rd day turned out to be unfortunate for us, we lost in 5 races and won in 3. Crude tactical errors influenced the result in two races, in the rest somewhere there was not enough individual skill, somewhere luck. The final day did not solve anything – we finished 10th.

Of course, after last year’s 6th place, this result can hardly be called successful. On the other hand, we have a new lineup on,, from last year’s team only Kirill Shunenkov, our most experienced rider at the moment, remains, the other guys are just beginning to gain international experience.

I note that the level of the regatta has increased, new strong teams have appeared.

The main conclusion is simple: more practice is needed, serious international regattas provide an excellent experience, but we also need domestic Russian competitions if we want to achieve success in team races.

There are many important starts ahead, we will correct our mistakes, work out the teamwork interaction and move on. ”
