      HUGO BOSS has stopped the race
      The page of the famous British yachtsman Alex Thomson on Facebook posted a message stating that today at 9.37 London time (12.37 Moscow time), the HUGO BOSS yacht, which at that moment was sailing at a speed of 25 knots, came across an unidentified object.

The blow was strong. Immediately after the incident, Thomson and the second skipper Neil MacDonald stopped the yacht and examined the damage caused to the vessel. It turned out that the keel suffered the most.

Alex and Neil were forced to decide not to continue participating in the Transat Jacques Vabre.

Racers, fortunately, were not injured. The HUGO BOSS coastal team will deliver the yacht to the nearest port.

It remains to add that the race for HUGO BOSS did not work out from the very beginning. Alex and Neil chose an unsuccessful route, and by the time of the collision they were behind the leader – Сharal Jeremy Beiu and Christopher Pratt – by almost 500 miles.

      Coffee race started
      This afternoon in Le Havre (France), the 14th Transat Jacques Vabre, which is often called the Coffee Race, was launched. Participants will have to cover 4350 nautical miles to Salvador, the capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia. Double-handed race, that is, on each boat – two people.

Three classes of ships set off: class 40 (27 boats), Multi50 (3) and IMOCA60 (29). As we have already said, this time special attention is focused on the third, the most massive of them. Among 29 IMOCA60 boats, there are 16 equipped with hydrofoils. At the same time, five of them were launched recently, all of them are superhigh-speed and are said to be called upon to revolutionize the class.

Briton Alex Thomson, the skipper of one of these yachts and perhaps the most hyped of all, Hugo Boss (Thomson went to race with compatriot Neil MacDonald, who was a participant in the Volvo Ocean Race 7 times around the world), said a couple of weeks before the start that This year, IMOCA60 leaders can go the distance to Salvador in 10 days (the current record for the class is 13 days).

      Rolex Middle Sea Race: Two Days Left!
      Next Saturday – the day after tomorrow! – in Valletta (Malta) starts the famous Rolex Middle Sea Race. This year, the amazingly beautiful 607-mile race around Sicily is held for the jubilee, 40th time. So – with the upcoming holiday!

The race record set a year ago – 130 ships – this time will not be broken. But there are only slightly fewer yachts, and the struggle for awards, no doubt, will be fierce as always. I would like to believe that in this struggle, yachts flying the Russian flag will take an active part. Of which we counted 11 in the list of applicants. And all in this list are vessels representing 23 countries.

      Today will be the 90th anniversary race!
      Today in San Remo will continue the anniversary regatta dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Dragon class. 162 crews take part in the races, including 16 teams representing Russia.

Two first qualifying races were held yesterday (there will be four in total). Qualification competitions, as we have already said, are held in two fleets (81 teams each), with the leading crews included in the TOP-30 of the world ranking equally divided between the fleets.

In both fleets, the victory in the first race was achieved by Russian teams. In Fleet A – RUS 27 ANNAPURNA Anatoly Loginov, in Fleet B – RUS 34 TO BE CONTINUED Vasily Senatorov. However, in the second race of the day, both teams performed much less successfully, and in the sum of two starts ANNAPURNA is in its 15th fleet (38 points, arrivals 1 – 37), while TO BE CONTINUED is in 16th place (39 points, 1 – 38).

Mike Hayles' GBR 764 NAIAD took the lead in Fleet A: the English crew had 14 points (arrivals 9 – 5). Note that in the third position in this fleet RUS 2 ALISA, Alexander Yezhkov – 18 points (arrivals 11 – 7).

Irish IRL 180 SERAFINA Goggin Murphy became the leader in Fleet B – 5 points (3 – 2).       Champagne for the race!
      On Saturday, October 5, the penultimate day of the fourth regatta season of the 44Cup, held in Portuguese Cascais, two of the three Russian teams finally managed to advance up the table. From the scene, Elena Otekina reports:

Team Nika Vladimir Prosikhina continued the positive trend and climbed to third place, coming in 3rd and 6th in the first two races of the day and winning third. Before the final day, the team is 8 points from second place and 7 ahead of the nearest rival – the French Aleph.

Also, the Bronenosec Sailing Team with Kirill Frolov on the steering wheel, representing the St. Petersburg Yacht Club (1-2-7), earned her first champagne for the race won. As a result, she took off from 7th to 5th place in overall, having shifted from him the Yekaterinburg team "Tavatuy" Pavel Kuznetsov, which now occupies the 6th line (7-8-2).

The British Team Aqua has kept the lead with an impressive 2-1-3 series and is ahead by 7 points from the Monegasque Charisma Nico Puns, who still ranks second (5-3-5).

On Saturday, Cascais finally showed off his best wind of 18-20 knots with gusts of up to 25, which makes him a favorite racing spot for sailors around the world. The runoff decreased slightly, but a short wave appeared, which always accompanies a strong northwest wind. So the crews had to rebuild again under the new conditions. Not without numerous brochings, because the change of wind and strong gusts came quickly, and even the most experienced crews suffered.

Team Nika in the first race was second in the first round, following the Armadillo. After staging the gennaker, Nika wanted to protect herself from the British team rolling on her right, who was also trying to get out, and Vladimir led the boat too much, practically putting it in the water. This protracted broaching cost the team the second place, which went to Aqua.

In the second race there was a very large left approach at the start, and as a result the entire fleet did not reach the line of several corps. As a result, Nika fell under the hand, being sealed in the left group of boats without the opportunity to go to the right side. The team got to the first rounding last, then on the second loop it was able to overtake two boats and won another place from Peninsula Petroleum right before the finish.

The third race was the most interesting. Nika came to the first sign second after Tavatuy, then on the left side she improved to the goal to the first place, on the second rounding she failed and was third, but after the sign she made an early turn to the shore, got a good wind set and on the left side on a very high speed was able to get to the finish line first.

“We tried hard today, we began to succeed, well, one race was unsuccessful. In the first race I put the boat in broaching, 24 knots blew there, and somehow I missed it, I did not obey Tom (tactics). We still somehow slowly recovered. And in the second race it was very important for us to play three places; this is probably the best achievement, ”commented Vladimir Proshikhin on the day.

Bronenosec splendidly spent the first two races, leading all the way in the first and going to the second position all the second. In the third race, the team was fourth in the first round, but then made a mistake with the side and went to the disadvantageous side, where she lost several places that she could not play later. Steering Kirill Frolov admitted that he finally felt the joy of racing. “The starts were successful, the speed was good, we enjoyed it a lot. Here, the real Cascais we were waiting for! With such a wave, with a good wind, a good speed was 17-18 knots. It was all that we love this place for, we got a good first two races. "

“Tavatuy” after two unsuccessful races superbly started the third. Starting at excellent speed, the team came first to the sign, but then twisted the sail at the turn and fell to the goal to third place. On the second tack, she again was in the lead on the upper sign and wanted to immediately turn left, but again hesitated with a sail, and Nika overtook her, as a result, there was no point in going after her left.

Steering Pavel Kuznetsov, although delighted with Cascais, but admits that the water area for the team is very difficult. “The day is good, but we are not yet ready for such speeds and winds. We still have so many small jambs, we still have to train. All maneuvers are still a little poor. We do not immediately gain speed, everything is not very clean, one thing, then another – and as a result, a general loss. Well, the starts were not very successful. "

      Around the world Ocean Race has become "especially valuable"
      The International Sailing Federation – World Sailing – has included the Ocean Race (formerly Volvo Ocean Race) around the world in the list of competitions especially important for the development of sailing.

The World Sailing Special Event status is assigned to races 2021-22 and 2025-26. Recall that in Ocean Race, where for the last quarter of a century only class VO65 yachts performed, IMOCA 60 hydrofoil vessels will also take part.

Round-the-world races of 2021-22 and 2025-26 will be held according to the rules of World Sailing. The International Federation organizes anti-doping support for teams and shares its marketing experience with race organizers.

“We are pleased that World Sailing will work with Ocean Race over the next 7 years, helping to increase the audience of the round-the-world race, which today is many millions of people on different continents,” emphasized Danish President Kim Andersen of the International Sailing Federation.

      Elfutina won the medal race!
      In Torbole on Lake Garda today ended the world championship in the RS: X class. And it ended for us on an otpimistic note. Stefania Elfutina has always been criticized for the fact that she does not conduct medal races in the best way. And today it was the other way around!

      Tolyatti: the first race

The first races took place at the main competitions of the season for the Optimists at the Russian Championship in Tolyatti. With an unstable weak wind, the organizers managed to conduct one race in all fleets.

On the second day of the championship, weather conditions again did not allow the organizers of the championship to go according to the plan: instead of 4 races, only one was possible in all fleets of the Optimists. During the first race, the wind was even, without strong approaches and waste, its speed ranged from 4 to 6 knots.

“Unfortunately, the weather is very difficult. The wind is weak, changing direction and strength. Attempts to conduct races were very many, rearranged the distance several times. The forecast on this reservoir does not always coincide with the real conditions, it all depends on the weather and cloud cover, ”said Oleg Yushkov, chairman of the protest committee.

After the first race, the wind began to leave a little and change sides, then it leveled off and became more stable, and the judges gave another start. After the “yellow” fleet started, the wind began to change again, so the race in other fleets was canceled. The finish in the “yellow” fleet took place under unpredictable conditions: the wind then changed direction, then disappeared, then turned around 180 degrees. In the control time, 32 people met the deadline (total in the group of 75 athletes). The control time is 15 minutes after the first finish.

According to the results of one race held, the leadership is shared by four riders who came first in their fleets. Kirill Shunenkov, Artyom Maksimkin from the Vodnik Sailing Club, Georgy Brazhenko (CSKA) and another “academician” from the Rautu team Andrei Sotnikov have one first visit from the athlete of the Academy of Sailing.

Then the riders will be divided into “gold”, “silver”, “bronze” and “white” fleets depending on the results shown in the qualification. The Russian Championship is the most important start of the season for the Optimists. Also, these competitions are one of the stages of selection for the national team for the European Championship and the World Championship.
