      Members of the elite club
After a thorough analysis of old and newly discovered data, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston amended the list of those who traveled alone around the world sailing with the passage of three great capes. He keeps this list and refines it for many years.

Beginner of the "Club of the world around" Tapio Lehtinen

But before we name how many sailors are on this list, here are a couple of questions to backfill.

What do you think, how many people have been able to conquer Everest for all years? It turns out quite a lot – about five thousand.

And how many people have traveled to space? Those who made an orbital space flight, imagine – 563.

At the same time, they made a solitary round-the-world voyage under sail with the passage of three great capes, according to Sir Robin, – only 223. And if you count only those who walked around the "ball" non-stop – even half as much!

A truly elite club. The last to become a member is Golden Globe Race-2018/19 participant Tapio Lehtinen. You see him in the picture.

And here is a complete list of Knox-Johnston:

"The water area is beautiful, the yacht club is even better!"
On September 6, the opening ceremony of the Russian championship in the classes “Optimist”, “Cadet” and “Zoom 8” will be held in the Togliatti yacht club “Friendship”.

"The water area is beautiful, the yacht club is even better!"

Last year, the Russian championship, also held in Togliatti, broke the record for the number of participants. In the class "Optimist" 309 athletes were declared, in the classes "Cadet" and "Zoom 8" – 45 and 54, respectively. It is expected that this year the record will again be broken.

“The championship of Russia in the Optimist class is the most important event of this season,” says Vladimir Lyubomirov, president of the Optimist Class Association. – The strongest athletes from all over Russia will take part in it. Every year the class is growing. Five years ago, we could not imagine that so many athletes would participate in all-Russian regattas. It is very important that the upcoming championship of Russia was held at a high level. As part of the championship, we plan to hold a coaching council and a meeting of the Presidium of the Optimist Association, discuss selection criteria, appoint a new executive director of the Association and solve a number of pressing issues ahead of the winter training season.

Yachtsmen from more than 40 cities of Russia will come to Togliatti. Competitions are held in the water area of the Kuibyshev reservoir. In the classes "Optimist" and "Cadet" boys and girls aged 9 to 16 years old compete, in the class "Zoom 8" – juniors and juniors up to 20 years old.

“The water area is beautiful, the Druzhba yacht club is even better,” says Vadim Mekhanikov, chief judge of the regatta. – This is a yacht club of international level. We have few such clubs. As the trend of recent years shows, every year more and more athletes participate in the championship of Russia. Last year there were more than 300 Optimist boats. This year we expect more to come.

The organizers plan to hold 12 races – six qualifying and the same final. The race committee will give up to three starts per day.

The Russian Championship in Tolyatti is one of the stages in the selection of the strongest athletes for the national teams of Russia in the Optimist class for the 2020 World and European Championships.

Last year, St. Petersburg athletes – Danila Ivanov and Alexandra Lukoyanova (both Krestovsky Island) won the regatta. Now yachtsmen perform in pre-Olympic classes. At the end of last season, Danila transferred to the crew in the 29er class, and Alexander – on the Laser 4.7.

For many young athletes, the Russian championship in the Optimist, Cadet, and Zoom 8 classes may be the final before moving to the youth class.

This year, athletes from St. Petersburg also claim high places. At the last championship of St. Petersburg, the leading positions were occupied by racers from the Academy of Sailing and Rautu – Kirill Shunenkov, Nikita Chernykh and Daniil Perchik. Among the girls, Alisa Ivanovskaya, Marina Babkina and Yulia Naymushina performed best. In Togliatti, a serious fight will be imposed on them by local athletes, as well as racers from Moscow and the Moscow region.

      Club Cup: a start
How many regattas take place on Saturdays in Moscow and Moscow region? Last Saturday, June 1, one more passed – the Club Cup project started.

Club Cup: a start

This “small step for humanity” is more than just “another regatta”. After all, for the first time six yacht clubs have agreed TOGETHER to conduct a series of competitions.

This is a serious step in the development of the club yacht movement, which showed that clubs can not only compete for customers, but also unite for the sake of a beautiful idea. At the opening, everyone repeated in chorus: “How have they not done this before?” And “It's great that you can show yourself and see people!”

Of course, every yacht club wants to be the best both in the distance and in the organization of its stage. For the premiere, the organizers chose a “fun” class of dinghy – eM-ka and the waters of the picturesque bay. Hospitable Soho Sailing Style took the risk and the honor to open the Clubs Cup.

Seven yacht clubs of Moscow, the Moscow Region and St. Petersburg came to measure themselves: Soho Sailing Style, Sailing Academy, SportFlot, PIRogovo, Wind Power, Zig Zag and PROyachting.

On the day of the event, at the briefing, an additional intrigue was born: the organizers invited the participants to choose the format of the competition – the draw for self-tuning of the boat or the race with a transfer.

Unanimously, participants voted for the format of races with a transfer, and went to the water (some train, others get used to the new boat).

The new water area was also surprised by the wind conditions: the winds at 45 degrees kept the participants in the tone and, of course, the panel of judges. The races were short, but very dynamic. As a result, given six starts under different wind speeds from 4 to 10 m / s.

We thank for the patience and work of those who ensured refereeing: Natalya Lobova – chairperson of the State Committee, Tatyana Bedyagina – chief secretary, Alexander Ermolaev – chairman of the PC, Dmitry Zolotov – chief installer.

In the final protocol, the top three ranked very tightly:

PROyachting, Mikhail Loskov, helmsman – 1st place (12 points)

Wind Power, helmsman Andrei Kipyatkov – 2nd place (13 points)

SportFlot, steering Konstantin Danko – 3rd place (13 points)

“We believe that club competitions are a very important stage in the development of sailing. This is a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other, learn from each other and make contacts for future possible interesting projects, says the stage winner Mikhail Loskov. – I would very much like to see the competitions turn into friendly club meetings. Excitement and struggle at a distance, communication between participants before and after races. I was pleasantly surprised that colleagues from St. Petersburg showed interest in our competition. ”

Stage 1 – this is only the beginning of the first points in the piggy bank of the overall rating. We are waiting for five more colorful meetings on the water. Different sites, different classes.

More regattas good and different!

Sailing Academy

At the beginning of 2019, the Academy regularly sails more than 350 children and 160 cadets of the Nakhimov and Kronstadt cadet corps, as well as about 70 students of the Votkinsk branch of the Academy. This year the Academy will make every effort to maintain the bar high in past years.

The year 2019 began for our guys successfully: at the Russian Championship in Winter Sailing in Petrozavodsk Nikita Kodanev repeated his last year’s success and became two-time Russian Snowkiting Champion, the first among girls was Elena Kastina, who returned to the winter kite after more than two years of recess, and Anastasia Shchedrin was the second among girls and the first among juniors in the discipline "winter windsurfing".

In 2019, the Academy of Sailing will again hold the most important junior regattas of all-Russia scale, including:

– The Optimist Class Association Cup, the final stage of the selection for the national teams at the world and European championships;

– Championship of Russia in international classes with the participation of the best young athletes from all over the country;

– St. Petersburg Championship in sailing, the most massive regatta in the city;

– as well as the traditional series of 4 children's regattas for the smallest, novice athletes “Optimists of the Northern Capital. Gazprom Cup ”, in each stage of the series will take part about 100-140 young riders. Partner of the regatta is the "Children's Radio".

In addition, about 15 club regattas will be held. In addition to competitions in St. Petersburg, the best athletes, juniors and Olympians of the Academy will take part in 20 domestic and about 20 largest international regattas.

For the third year in a row, Academy athletes have taken part in the “Know Russia Under Sails” project, which has no analogues. As part of the project, students of the Academy combine training and travels in the most interesting and unusual corners of our country. Combining informative excursions, plunging into the history of Russia, our children popularize sailing among the population, conducting master classes for children living in the region, and also acquire new skills of sailing in different conditions on various water bodies. In 2019, young athletes will visit Lake Onega, the Chechen Republic and the Altai Territory.

The athletes of the Maritime School of the Academy of Sailing will take part in a great trek to Finland and Sweden in preparation for the World Championships, which will be held in 2020 in St. Petersburg. Maritime School is a project aimed at developing a harmonious personality by means of sailing, passing on the heritage of maritime culture and maritime history of Russia and the whole world to future generations. The age of athletes is from 13 to 17 years.

Since 2013, the Academy has been practicing sailing for cadets of cadet schools, the guys gain a versatile sailing experience – on a training sailboat "Lukull" and boats like the captain's chick. In 2017, the first internship practice was held for cadets of the Udmurt cadet corps of the Volga Federal District named after V. Starikov in the opened branch of the Academy in the city of Votkinsk, this tradition will continue in 2019.

National Sailing League and European Champions League

Support for the club movement in Russia and in Europe remains one of the priorities of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. Shipyard of historic shipbuilding "Poltava"

By the beginning of the season, the builders plan to arm the Ship "Poltava": install the spars, rigging, sails and guns. This summer, for a month, the ship will stand on the Neva at one of the central embankments of St. Petersburg. July 29 "Poltava" will take part in the main naval parade of the country.

Recall, the 54-gun battleship of the 4th rank "Poltava" was launched on the day of the city of St. Petersburg on May 27. The ship "Poltava" is the first battleship of the Baltic Fleet. The ship was named in honor of the victory of Russian troops in the Battle of Poltava. "Poltava" was built on the Admiralty shipyards, launched in June 1712. Peter I personally participated in the design and construction of the ship. A replica of the battleship "Poltava" began to be built in 2013 at the shipyard of historic shipbuilding "Poltava", founded by the St. Petersburg Yacht Club.

You can make sure of the greatness of the creation of Petersburg shipbuilders personally, after visiting the tour. Today the shipyard of historic shipbuilding is the main one for the repair of large Russian sailing ships recognized by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping. In recent years, the mast of the sailing training ship “Chersonesos” was repaired, the mast and bowsprit of the “Nadezhda” sailing vessel were repaired, the deck and boats of the cruiser “Aurora” were restored. The shipyard has a strong design bureau, a sailmaking workshop for large sailboats, carpentry, foundry, spar workshops, carved decoration workshops and ship furniture. The design bureau created and implemented the project of the frigate “Peter and Pavel” in New Holland and the project of reconstructing the schooner “Zapad” in Arkhangelsk. Today, the friendly and professional team of the Shipyard is engaged in the development of several projects for St. Petersburg and Sevastopol.

      Sochi Yacht Club Cup: results

On May 4, the first ever Sochi Yacht Club Cup ended with a single race. Athletes and coaches were eager to hold another race to finally determine who was who, but did not allow the wind.

Sochi Yacht Club Cup: results

As a result, the top three remained unchanged. Artem Maksimkin from Dolgoprudny won by a margin of 9 points with a margin from his rivals. The regatta became the 2nd stage of selection for the national teams of Russia in the most popular children's class of yachts in the world “Optimist”.

In total, 204 young yachtsmen under the age of 16 from various regions of Russia took part in the races. All participants of the competition acknowledged that the regatta was a success both from the point of view of organizing the competitions and from the point of view of the races themselves.

For 5 days of competition, the judges held 9 races. The water area of FGBU “Yug Sport”, despite the established reputation of a place where there are often problems with the wind, this time pleased everyone with winds of different strength and direction. Only one day turned out to be completely windless – 3 May.

At the very beginning, all the athletes were randomly divided into 3 fleets (approximately 70 people each), and their personnel changed every day. After 6 qualifying races, all the athletes were redistributed among the fleets, depending on the results (the best ones entered the “golden” fleet), and the best of the best were finally determined in the final 3 races.

The winner was Artyom Maksimkin from Dolgoprudny, who took the lead from the very beginning of the regatta. Danila Ivanov and Andrei Sotnikov turned out to be 9 points less (St. Petersburg, GBSU secondary school on Krestovsky Ostrov PS and Rautu DSPK), but Danilo was the second in additional indicators.

All three first places among girls also went to the pupils of the legendary coach Anatoly Anatolyevich Parfenenko from Dolgoprudny: Maria Struk, Dina Zhilkina and Alisa Ivanova. Maria also became the 13th overall and Dina became the best among the younger girls. In the second place among the younger girls, Eva Turkina (St. Petersburg, “Krestovsky Island”), and Yuli Naimushin from Krasnoyarsk – the third one.

Artem Cherpita (CSKA, Sevastopol) won the younger boys, Dmitry Eremin (St. Petersburg, “Krestovsky Island”) showed the second result, but Daniil Larchenkov (Rautu), St. -Petersburg).

Chief Judge Vadim Mechanics summed up the regatta: “From a competitive point of view, not everything was possible – the 10th race was not enough to dot the i, but even without it, the regatta was very intense. I hope that it will turn out to be traditional, as there is a very interesting water area here, which makes all athletes wrestle. Of course, a special thank you to the heads of the FGBU "South" for allowing us to conduct everything at the highest level. "

The final composition of the national teams, which will represent Russia at the World and European Championships, will be known after the Association Cup, which will be held in early June in St. Petersburg.
