      Zhuillon again hit the road
Last night, Moscow time, the 63-year-old skipper Francis Zhuillon and four members of his crew, leaving the IDEC SPORT max trimaran from Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), headed for Shenzhen (China).

Zhuillon again hit the road

The third stage of Zhuillon’s record tour is very short – only 870 nautical miles. It is planned that IDEC SPORT will cover this distance in three (maximum – four) days, depending on wind conditions. It is worth noting that on the path of the trimaran there are many islands and fishing boats.

Recall that the first stage – 8800 miles from the town of Port Louis in France to another Port Louis on the island of Mauritius – IDEC SPORT overcame in 19 days, 18 hours, 14 minutes and 45 seconds. The second stage – from Mauritius to Ho Chi Minh City (3975 miles) – was completed in 12 days, 20 hours, 37 minutes and 56 seconds. As for the fourth stage, it will be 13,000 miles of the classic Tea Race from Hong Kong to London.

Yesterday

Guichard once again sets off for Jules Verne's Trophy!
The upcoming night, the 40-meter Spindrift 2 maxi trimaran led by skipper Yann Guichard will take off from the famous Créac'h lighthouse on the island of Wessan (this is the westernmost point of the French metropolis) – and go on a world race of 21,600 nautical miles.

Guichard once again sets off for Jules Verne's Trophy!Yann Guichard "width =" 643 "height =" 367 "data-caption =" Yann Guichard "><img src=

The goal of Guichard and his crew of 12 is to win the Jules Verne Trophy. Recall that since 2017, the record of the round-the-world race belongs to Francis Jouillon and his team, who overcame the distance in 40 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds on the IDEC SPORT maxi catamaran.

The 45-year-old Guichard has repeatedly tried to take possession of the Trophy. We talked about each of these attempts at one time, but in recent months we have significantly more readers, so we will repeat the main thing.

In 2016, Spindrift 2 stopped the race when only 2,600 miles were left before the finish – because of the massive anticyclone that would have to be circumvented.

A new attempt was originally scheduled for November 2017. But meteorologists constantly postponed the start, which in the end was given only on January 6, 2018. However, at the very beginning of the journey, the mast fell at the trimaran.

The next attempt was unsuccessful on February 1 of this year, when Spindrift 2 damaged the right-hand drive, 1,200 nautical miles from Cape Luvin in the Southern Ocean. It is worth noting that all 16 days that the trimaran was on the road, he was significantly ahead of the record schedule of the skipper Zhuillon.

And now – a new attempt. I want to believe that luck, finally, Guicharu will smile.

Recall that the 40-meter trimaran was designed by the French design company VPLP in 2006 and was originally called the Banque Populaire V. In 2012, a team led by Loika Peyron set the world round-the-world record on it – 45 days, 13 hours, 42 minutes and 53 seconds.

      And again about the rotors
The Finnish technology company Norsepower, which designs and installs Fletner rotors on ships, has confirmed more than 8 percent fuel savings from testing its products aboard Maersk Pelican Maersk Tankers.

And again about the rotors

Rotary sails are a modern version of Flettner's rotors, rotating cylinders that use the Magnus effect to help propel the ship and increase fuel economy using wind power.

In August 2018, two 30-meter rotors were installed on board the Maersk Pelican, which travels in a variety of conditions in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

According to Norsepower, during the annual tests from September 2018 to September 2019, the total amount of fuel saved was 8.2%, which is equivalent to a reduction in emissions of about 1,400 tons of CO2.

These data, obtained during the study, were analyzed and confirmed by the Lloyd's Register of the Ship Performance Group.

Sail again in the Universiade program
The 30th Summer Universiade started in Italy in the city of Naples, the site www.parusniy-sport.org reports. After a break of 8 years, sailing was again included by the organizers of the competition in the program.

Sail again in the Universiade program

The host country determines which 2 sports, in addition to the mandatory ones, to include in the competition program, and Italy has chosen sailing, among others. This time Italian colleagues decided to define the format of sailing competitions in the form of races with a transfer of crews on keel yachts RS21 – a relatively young class of yachts for a crew of 4 people. For gender equality, it is determined that the crews must be mixed and consist of two boys and two girls.

From one country to one to two crews are allowed, the issue of admission of the second crew is determined by the availability of free lots and the order queue. Only full-time university students are allowed to compete. For Russia, the lot was given only for one crew.

Our country in these competitions is represented by the crew of Dmitry Tretyakov, consisting of Dmitry Tretyakov (skipper), Ivan Volchkov, Marina Taran and Daria Fedyanin. This crew was selected according to the results of student qualifying competitions held on J / 70 yachts in the city of Sochi in March of this year, where he confidently defeated 6 other student crews. The guys have a large number of starts on keel yachts of this class at competitions of different levels up to the levels of the World and European Championships. In particular, Dmitry Tretyakov, as a helmsman, most recently took 32nd place out of 134 participants in the European Championship in the class J / 70. A lot of success with other crew members. The guys are generally charged and determined to win.

In Naples, they will have to fight against quite strong rivals – teams of Spain, Italy, Singapore, Japan, Germany, Australia, Austria, France, China, Korea, Switzerland, Finland. Competitions will be held in a tense situation: 16 teams are divided into two groups, within which there will be a series of transplants of 8 races. The duration of each race is assumed to be on average 15 minutes. On the last day, 8 teams will be determined by points, and the final arrangement among them will be determined by the results of one final race.

The first start is scheduled for Monday, July 8, the race will continue for 5 days until July 12. We wish our guys success and cheer for them!
