Jouillon: and again the attack on the record
This morning, the famous French skipper Francis Jouillon, along with a crew and four people, went on an IDEC Sport maxi-trimaran from Hong Kong to London: their goal is to set a new world record on the classic Tea Race route. The distance is 15 thousand nautical miles (approximately 28 thousand kilometers).

Jouillon: and again the attack on the record

Recall that the record – 36 days, 2 hours, 37 minutes and 2 seconds – from 2018 belongs to Giovanni Soldini and maxi-trimaran Maserati Multi 70. To improve the achievement of the Italians, the French must cross the finish line, passing under the Queen Elizabeth II bridge on the Thames , no later than 11 hours 36 minutes and 58 seconds on Saturday, February 23.

Francis Jouillon is 63 years old. He is the winner of many prestigious races, and he has been the owner of the Jules Verne Trophy since 2017.

Jouillon finished in Ho Chi Minh City
A team of five people, led by 63-year-old skipper Francis Jouillon, completed the transition from Port Louis on the island of Mauritius to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam on the IDEC SPORT maxi trimaran.

Jouillon finished in Ho Chi Minh City

The theoretical distance of 3932.4 miles (actually IDEC SPORT covered one and a half thousand miles more) the trimaran passed in 12 days, 20 hours, 37 minutes and 55 seconds. As you know, no one has ever set records at this distance before. And now it all depends on whether the World Sailing Council for Record Registration records this achievement of Jouillon?

By the way, the famous skipper last week suggested that he will finish in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday. And so it happened. Although, according to preliminary forecasts, experts (and Zhuillon himself) claimed that the trip would take at least 16 days.

Recall that the transition from Port Louis to Ho Chi Minh City was the second part of the record trip of the IDEC SPORT trimaran. At first, Zhuillon single-handedly set a world record (26 days, 4 hours, 13 minutes and 29 seconds), having covered 8800 nautical miles from the town of Port Louis in Brittany to another Port Louis, in Mauritius. Then came the turn of the transition (already with the team) from Port Louis to Ho Chi Minh City.

There are two more stages ahead. First Ho Chi Minh City – Hong Kong – 920 miles. And finally, the classic Tea Race from Hong Kong to London – 13,000 miles.

Jouillon set off again for a record
The famous French skipper Francis Gouillon does not sit still. More recently, on November 8, he set a world record by going on the IDEC SPORT maxi-trimaran from Port Louis in Brittany to another Port Louis, on the island of Mauritius. And now he again set off on a long journey.

Jouillon set off again for a record

This time, the target of Zhuillon is Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's largest city, to which 4000 miles. Trimaran will have to leave Mauritius (it happened today at 8 hours 49 minutes 59 seconds Moscow time), cross the Indian Ocean, go through the Sound of the Sounds between the Java and Sumatra islands, then cross the South China Sea and enter the Mekong Delta.

If the previous journey Zhuillon made a solo, but now he is helped by a crew of 4 people. “I am glad that my team will be with me on this adventure. We will go through places where at every step you can encounter a fishing boat or a tree trunk, so we will follow the ocean at ten eyes, ”says the skipper.

According to plans, IDEC SPORT will finish in Ho Chi Minh City in 16-16 and a half days. Then there is the transition Ho Chi Minh City – Hong Kong – 920 miles. And finally, Zhuillon and Co. will try to improve the world record in the classic tea race distance – 13,000 miles from Hong Kong to London.

This morning, the transition of 63-year-old French skipper Francis Gouillon on the IDEC SPORT maxi-trimaran from Port Louis in Brittany to another Port Louis, on the island of Mauritius, has completed.

Jouillon improved the record by almost a week!

Jouillon covered the distance of 8800 nautical miles in 19 days, 18 hours, 14 minutes and 45 seconds, and this is a new world record. The previous achievement, set by him 10 years ago (26 days, 4 hours, 13 minutes and 29 seconds), the French skipper managed to improve for almost a week!

How much will Jouillon improve the record?
The 63-year-old French skipper Francis Gouillon is left with 800 nautical miles to improve his IDC SPORT max trimaran his own world record in the distance from the town of Port Louis in Brittany to another Port Louis, on the island of Mauritius.

How much will Jouillon improve the record?

And now the question is one – the one that is put in the headline: How much will Jouillon improve the record?

The 18th day of the race ends with time. Behind – more than 8,000 miles. The remaining 800 IDEC SPORT, if nothing catastrophic happens (I don’t even want to think about it), it will take about two days – even despite the fact that two low-pressure bands have to be overcome. By the way, over the past day, maxi-trimaran has walked 495 miles. You could say it was walking around: one day it was 716.5 miles.

Zhuillon is now ahead of his own schedule for 2009 by 1487 miles – which, as the classic once wrote, is a huge distance. Ten years ago, the Frenchman at this moment just passed the Cape of Good Hope. And in Mauritius finished, recall, after 26 days, 4 hours, 13 minutes and 29 seconds.

How about this time?

P.S. Recall that the race from Port Louis to Port Louis is the first stage of the record series planned by Jouillon. Then three more stages will follow – however, it is no longer a solo, but with a team. Mauritius – Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) – 3975 nautical miles. Ho Chi Minh City – Hong Kong – 920 miles. And finally, from Hong Kong to London – 13,000 miles.

      Jouillon saved a day
Yacht Russia continues to follow the record attempt of 63-year-old French skipper Francis Jouillon, who hopes to set a world record on his IDEC SPORT max trimaran at a distance of 8800 nautical miles – from the town of Port Louis in Brittany to another Port Louis, on the island of Mauritius.

Jouillon saved a day

The seventh day of the race is ending, and it is worth noting that so far everything has been more than successful for Jouillon. The equatorial calm zone, of course, slowed down its progress (in the last 24 hours the Frenchman covered only 285 miles at an average speed of 11.9 knots), but, nevertheless, he is ahead of his record schedule of ten years ago by 335 miles.

Recall that in 2009, Zhuillon single-handedly walked the same path in 26 days, 4 hours and 13 minutes. To improve this achievement, he must finish in Mauritius no later than 13.24 UTC on November 14.

In the same 2009, Zhuillon reached the equator, breaking 3350 miles, 8 days, 5 hours and 9 minutes after the start. This time, an important milestone will be reached a day earlier, in a few hours.

Why has Jouillon lost the edge? https://yacht-express.net/why-has-jouillon-lost-the-edge/ https://yacht-express.net/why-has-jouillon-lost-the-edge/#respond Tue, 29 Oct 2019 17:00:36 +0000 https://yacht-express.net/why-has-jouillon-lost-the-edge/ Read more]]>

Why has Jouillon lost the edge?
For 10 days, the attempt of 63-year-old French skipper Francis Jouillon to improve his IDC SPORT world record at a distance of 8800 nautical miles, from the town of Port Louis in Brittany to another Port Louis, on the island of Mauritius, has been ongoing.

Why has Jouillon lost the edge?

Over the past day, IDEC SPORT covered 584.5 nautical miles with an average speed of 24.4 knots. Before that, he walked even faster for two days — more than 600 miles a day. Nevertheless, Zhuillon lost his advantage: at the end of last week, he was ahead of his record ten-year-old schedule by more than 400 miles, and now he is only 39 miles ahead. Why? What happened

The thing is that after the equator the French skipper went much more west than 10 years ago, and now he is moving almost strictly south. The route because of this, of course, has increased, and significantly, but it is possible to bypass the low pressure zone, which promises significant time savings in the future.

Recall that in 2009, Zhuillon single-handedly traveled from Port Louis to Port Louis in 26 days, 4 hours and 13 minutes. To improve this achievement, he must finish in Mauritius no later than 13.24 UTC on November 14.

But the finish is still very, very far away. Before him 5140 miles.

Jouillon departed from Port Louis to Port Louis

At this distance, official world records are recorded, and 10 years ago Zhuillon single-handedly walked this path in 26 days, 4 hours and 13 minutes. Now his goal is to improve his own achievement. To do this, he must finish in Port Louis no later than 13.24 UTC on November 14th.

While IDEC SPORT is faster than ten years ago. In the first two days, he covered 176 miles more than in 2009.
