World Sailing Announces Contest
According to World Sailing Council member Oleg Ilyin, https://rusyf.ru, the International Sailing Federation announced a competition for the vacancy of the Olympic sailing board for windsurfing competitions for men and women.
Despite the belated attempts of the famous Neil Pride company to maintain the Olympic status for RS: X, this sailing board has accumulated too many opponents. With the exception of the three federations (including ours), which advocated the preservation of RS: X in the Olympic program of 2024, the vast majority of national federations and pre-assembly associations insist on holding an evaluation competition.
Along with the RS: X itself, “other windsurfing class associations” are invited to participate in the competition: RS: One, Kona, Formula windsurfing, Speed windsurfing, Techno 293/293 +, Funboard, Raceboard and Windsurfer, PWA (Professional Windsurfing Association).
The commission, which will evaluate applicants, will include: World Sailing Vice President, chairmen and members of leading committees of equipment and sport programs, Federation technical specialists, a representative of the athletes commission – only nine people.
Call for applications closes on July 26th. Later, on August 16, a short list will be announced. Competitions, presentations of classes of boards and estimated races will take place in sea conditions from September 9 to September 15, however, the specific location of the races has not yet been announced.
The Commission will announce its conclusions and proposals on October 4, and the final decision will be taken by World Sailing Council at the annual conference on November 2.
