On a major note, the Russian crews finished the world championship in sailing in the SB20 yacht class: ours won two final races! Well, according to the results of the entire B-Team championship, Alexey Lesnikov took second place! Here is what the press service of the SB20 Class Russian Association said:
The seventh was the most successful race for the Russian representative office in Hyeres, the finish of which was as follows: 1. “New Territories”. 2. "MST". 3. "B-Team".
And the next first was the “B-Team”. This alignment could not but have a beneficial effect on the overall result. Even if we couldn’t get the leader and become the winner of the “Give me Five” regatta
“The French are strong, they were almost inaccessible,” said the tactician of the “B-Team” Artem Basalkin. – Today we are a little closer to them: the day drove better. But we had no plan to overtake the French – for the remaining races it was unrealistic. The task was to keep second place.
Of course, I wanted to get in the prizes. In 2013 there was such a chance: before the last race they went in third place. But with a black flag flew away on the fifth. Now everything went fine. In Hyere, I only chased eight times in the Olympic classes and for the fifth time in SB20. Familiar water area, I started using it. And quite successfully.
Strange wind conditions? For Hyere, they were expected – this is often the case. There are practically no middle winds: if it is fresh, it is so fresh, if it is weak, then it is weak.
I can rate the performances of all Russian teams as a whole with four plus points. It could have been and wanted it to be better …
The season for our team is over. We decided to take the boat to Cascais and plan to train there with the same staff. And after the World Cup next year, we will take it back.
Second place is very significant for me. I was almost always in the top ten at world championships. Except for one, when we took 14th place. Experience in this class is already enough, and, of course, I wanted to get into the top three. Finally, it happened, and it was logical. I’m glad that we have such a team! "
Results of other Russian crews:
10 – “New Territories” by Alexei Semenov, 11 – “MST” by Vasily Grigoryev, 17 – “Suicide Squad” by Andrey Bolyakin, 23 – “ActiTime” by Arsen Chubarkov, 25 – “AM Rusarc” by Anastasia Morozova, 31 – Victoria Sailing Team Vadim Pushev 33 – “VIS Sailing Team” by Timur Sabirzyanov, 45 – “ICWind” by Olga Dmitrieva, 48 – “Polar Bear Away” by Denis Soloviev.
