Vendee Globe: doubts about the launch date
It seemed that there was a regatta in the world, which – unlike everyone else – did not plan to postpone or cancel. It's about the famous round-the-world singles race Vendee Globe, the start of which is scheduled for November 8.
But the situation with the pandemic, by and large, is getting better, and therefore the organizers of the Vendee Globe have doubts that the start of the round-the-world can be held at the appointed time. This is due, firstly, to the fact that quarantine and other tough measures to combat COVID-19 significantly complicated the preparation of future participants for the race, and secondly, to the fact that, according to tradition, at the launch ceremony in Le Sables Hundreds of thousands of fans are gathering d'Olonne, and in the current conditions this is absolutely unrealistic.
According to the head of the race organizing committee, Yves Owine, in an interview with France 3, he and his colleagues are monitoring the situation very carefully. The final decision on whether Vendee Globe will start on time or if it has to be postponed will be made around June 15th.
