Vaan is a young Dutch shipyard, specializing in the production of catamarans. Its main feature will be a combination of elite level boat with an environmentally responsible approach to yacht building.
“Cruises for entertainment needs to become more “green”, and fast. Just because your fun doesn’t have to pay more. There is no reason why this should be so. Looking at the materials and design from a different angle, innovative thinking, you can make even a luxury yacht environmentally friendly. You just want it,” — said the founder of the company Igor Cloyne (Igor Kluin).
The “green” tint is not an accident. In the past Cloyne was the co-founder and Vice-President of De Groene Zaak, an organization lobbying approach to the economy, assuming the priority of ideas of the UN on sustainable development. Cloyne also created the company Qurrent, specializing in clean energy.
Last week Vaan introduced the concept of its first project — the 12.8-metre Vaan R4. The choice will be available in white or charcoal black.
In accordance with the green concept of the shipyard the hull of the boat will be 60% consist of recycled aluminum, which is received, utilizing old window frames, road signs and license plates.
Aluminum profiles on the Board are from recycled materials and is 75%. Partner Vaan in the production of R4 will be the Norwegian company Hydro is the market leader in low-carbon aluminum. However, aluminum is chosen for the boat, not only because of recyclability, but because of the strength, safety and convenience of this material for construction.
Instead of teak for deck will be wood tube “under the floor”. Of course, the material will have to have the FSC certificate, which means that the manufacturer cares for the forests.
Textiles on R4 will be only from natural fabrics.
But the natural leather on the catamaran will not find, except that the accessories she will bring on Board someone of the guests. Instead of skin material that will be used from recycled fibers of pineapple leaves.
“Only in Europe annually write 80 thousand boats. Only two thousand of them dismantled properly. The remaining 78 thousand burned at waste treatment plants, throwing into the atmosphere huge amounts of CO2”, the site says Vaan.
It is expected that the new catamaran will help to improve these sad statistics. According to the shipyard, R4 is recyclable at 100%.
During the construction of the catamaran whenever possible, will use only a clean, renewable sources of energy. In cases when the company will apply to the partners and will not be able to influence this aspect, Vaan will pay compensation for what for her was made of the emissions of harmful substances.
In addition to environmental aspects, the second important mission of the creators of the catamaran was the balance, which will characterize not only the comfort, but good seaworthiness. For this the company involved as consultants CEO Dykstra Naval Architects of Tisa Nickels (Thys Nikkels) and five-time world champion, competitor in the Laser class at the Olympic games 1996 and 2000, Serge Kats (Serge Kats).
One result of this collaboration was a new concept cockpit. First, both the helm and the maximum shifted to the stern, but not raised to the roof. On the one hand, being close to a wide open transom, under which the splashing water, the helmsman of a catamaran feels his ship about the same as if he went on the boat, the monotype, but it has no problems with the roll and moves with greater speed. On the other hand, since the cockpit is on one level with the salon (they are separated by only a glass wall add-ins), steering is not separated from family and friends, who are traveling on R4 with him.
The second easy decision cockpit has been a shift from bulky fixed roof. Instead, on a catamaran for a few minutes to install (and if necessary, easily to clean) awning type bimini top. Thus, wherever R4 — vehicle use in warm or cool the Mediterranean, the Norwegian fjords — and whatever the weather, the cockpit is always possible to create a comfortable environment while being protected from the sun or enjoying it.
The creators of the R4 have designed three version of the plan of the lower quarters. They differ in how it is proposed to use the forward cabin to the right (“guest”) the body of the catamaran.
It is possible to install a bunk bed, a trapezoidal double bed, and can be done in a compartment of an additional bathroom. In all three cases, the changes will not affect the aft bedroom with two beds, which optionally can be joined into a double.
Another small option as the corridor in this building. Optionally, on the starboard side there will be two seats and a table to read or work.
The left wing R4 — master. At the stern there is the master cabin with a large bed, and in the bow with separate toilet and spacious bathroom.
R4 is already available for pre-order.
It is expected that the cost of the catamaran will amount to 399 thousand euros without VAT.
Ready to transfer the ship to the owner will be able not earlier than in a year. When you pre-order the client announce the earliest date when he will be able to get your R4, if he agrees, the cost of such priority entry (2.5 thousand Euro) included in the overall cost of the boat.
In Vaan warn that the number of applications they will accept for the next two years are very limited. The company explains that the desire to pay more attention to the quality rather than the quantity of the produced boards.
