OptiOrange Valencia 2019: 316 riders from 15 countries registered for the regatta
A few hours are left before the start of the second season of the international children's regatta OptiOrange Valencia. On March 7, registration of participants was opened in the host yacht club of Valencia and a training race was held.
Initiated in 2018 by the Yacht Club of St. Petersburg OptiOrange Valencia for a short period was able to multiply the number of participants. On the first day of registration, 316 athletes from 15 countries confirmed their participation.
Valencia provided the vast international fleet with excellent conditions for a training race. After several trial starts, a fleet of 300 pennants held a full-fledged race.
According to the chief judge of the competition, Caesar Sans, this training race was unique: “Almost all participants of the regatta could meet together at the starting line. Further, with the start of test races, the fleet will be divided into four groups. ”
The opening of the regatta will be the culmination of several processes that were launched immediately before the start of the competition. On March 7, the three-day clinic of the famous Belgian Optimist class coach Peter van der Bosque ended. Since March 5, the Belgian conducted daily training with several dozen athletes, including the Russian team.
On March 5, an official press conference was held at the La Fundación Trinidad Alfonso for the official press conference of the co-organizers of OptiOrange Valencia – Carlos de Beltran, director of El Real Club Náutico de Valencia, and Denis Pilipenko, director of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. In his speech, the representative of the Valencian Yacht Club noted that the OptiOrange Valencia regatta took a central place in the club’s calendar, and confirmed its readiness to continue supporting this competition. In turn, Denis Pilipenko noted the positive dynamics of the regatta development and its benefits for the training process of both Russian and foreign athletes.
According to the regatta program, the start of the first OptiOrange Valencia race will take place today at 12:00. It is worth noting that the organizers of the regatta paid much attention to the coastal program of the competition. Every day, valuable prizes from regatta partners – Garmin, North Sails, ZuMEX and Sailing Cuack will be drawn among the participants. Also, on the first day of the competition, the traditional opening ceremony is replaced by a fun fiesta.
