Cook and so the natives eat – but the current advocates of the fight against all forms of racism are all small. Apparently, the cook Islands will have to rename.
As reported from London, the correspondent of RIA Novosti, British activists against the global campaign against racism that started after the death at the hands of police of African-American George Floyd, had prepared a list of monuments to be demolished, and institutions and streets in need, from their point of view, in renaming.
On the website with the eloquent title Topple The Racists (“tear Down the racist”) appear, in particular, the names of the former premiers of the country William Gladstone and Robert peel, navigators James cook and Francis Drake.
“We believe that these statues and other memorials to the slave-owners and colonialists needs to be carried to Britain, finally admitted the truth about his past and how it shapes our present,” reads the home page.
The activists believe the initiation of public debate.
“It is important to shed light on the continued glorification of colonial icons and symbols” – they indicate.
To demolish the monuments, the renaming of schools, streets and pubs are offered throughout the country: location of undesirable elements indicated on the interactive map, and site visitors can expand the list.
