On Friday, September 20, in Marseille starts final – fifth phase of the international sailing League – SailGP.
All six teams participating in the race-2019, spend in these days of strenuous training on the waters of Marseilles, which many consider one of the most complex in the world.
Ahead of the crews, as we are not only the final stage but the final (it will be held on Sunday, September 22), which will meet the two top teams in the League the sum of all carried out in the course of the season starts. The winner of this decisive race will receive the main (and only) prize SailGP – million dollars. The rest get nothing. Cruel, but those are the rules.
It is easy to assume that in the final will meet two of the most successful team of the year – team Australia (tie – Tom Slingsby, Olympic champion 2012 in class Laser and eight-time world champion in different classes, the winner of the America’s Cup -2013, winner of the title of Best yachtsman in the world-2010) and team Japan (steering – Nathan Outteridge, he is also Australian, and yet – the Olympic champion-2012 in the 49er class, winner of 19 world Championships medals in different classes, skipper Artemis Racing in the two Cup “America”).
Both teams are on a level far away from the rest of the participants SailGP. Here is the table after four rounds of:
1. Australia – 169 points;
2. Japan – 165 points;
3. USA – 123 points;
4. UK – 120 points;
5. China – 117 points;
6. France – 115 points.
We will remind that initiators of SailGP are one of the richest people in the world, owner of Oracle Team USA, Larry Ellison, and his right hand, five-time winner of the America’s Cup Russell Coutts. About your project, they announced at the beginning of October 2018.
And the years since had passed, and SailGP is completing its first season. Yeah, different it is possible to treat these two gentlemen, but I must admit that words deeds do not disagree!
