Team Altus Challenge the Royal Malta yacht club Malta became the fourth contender for the 36th America’s Cup. Now she will officially join the Italian Luna Rossa, American Magic and the British INEOS UK Team that in 2021 in Auckland (New Zealand) will try to win the Cup from the current Champions Emirates Team New Zealand.

Over 167 years of existence, the Malta Cup has never participated in competitions.

The team was the first to file a “late application” for the campaign and her candidacy was considered and approved sooner than the seven other contenders.

“This is a great opportunity for our club on a global level to demonstrate that the marine industry in Malta,” — said the commander of the Royal yacht club Malta Godwin Zammit (Zammit Godwin).

The team will collaborate with experienced professionals of the America’s Cup, which will allow to raise the level of Maltese talented designers, engineers and shipbuilders.

“We are pleased to welcome the Royal yacht club Malta and Malta Altus Challenge for the 36th America’s Cup. Now we do not, and they are the smallest country which will fight for the Cup. We know what it’s like to be a small team, faced with unequal chances in the fight for the right to host one of the largest sporting events. And we wish them all the best,” said the CEO of Emirates Team New Zealand Grant Dalton (Grant Dalton).

Malta Altus Challenge is more than serious.

“If you want to create a strong team, you need to participate in three cycles of the Cup “of America.” I think all current members are set up for the long term. We have a new class of boats, so we are all equal, the difference between the teams is not very significant,” explained team captain Cataldi, Pascal (Pasquale Cataldi).
