May 17-19 in London, in the premises of the famous football club “Chelsea” there will be meetings Annual Conference Межд17-may 19 in London, in the premises of the famous football club “Chelsea” will pass meeting of the Annual conference of the International sailing Federation (World Sailing/ WS). Here is what the website of the WFTU member of the Board WS Oleg Ilyin:
This time we can expect a particularly heated discussion and controversial solutions. This is not surprising as we are witnessing the formation of a new Olympic sailing discipline, we can say a new era of Olympic sailing.
One of the “hot spots” will be the discussion on the work of the Evaluation Committee, which submitted its comprehensive report with recommendations for the election of the Olympic singles in men’s and women’s categories at the Olympic games in 2024.
We will remind that the program of the next Games in 2020, which will be held in the Japanese city of Enoshima, has long been formed and approved. With regard to 2024, the World is Sailing you must approve the Olympic classes of yachts to December of the current year. There WS will go to the international Olympic Committee, which finally approved the program of the Olympic games in 2024 in August 2020.
Meanwhile, there is a process of comprehensive assessment of sailing ships – candidates for Olympic status. In the category of Dinghy-singles there were four projects: RS Aero, Laser, Melges 14, D-ZERO. The main parameters of the candidates presented in the Table.
From 11 to 15 March 2019 on the basis of the famous Spanish yacht club, Real Club Naútico de Valencia 12 members of the Evaluation Committee, and that leading experts of Committees of WS together with the riders, held a so-called Evaluations (assessment of competition) and gave a comprehensive assessment of the submitted projects.
And here is the first sensation: almost unanimously, the Evaluation Committee gave preference to the draft RS Aero. The Committee’s opinion was supported by national federations who have sent their assessment in response to the questionnaire WS. Riders noted the simplicity and identity of housing design RS Aero, a reasonable combination of racing performance and value the workmanship of the boat.
The RS Aero Dinghy was designed and built by RS Sailing – the firm is known for a whole family of popular light boats Junior classes. New Dinghy was launched in the series and was published only five years ago, in 2014. And soon received recognition in many, mainly European countries.
For comparison, the “Laser” suddenly provoked serious criticism from the athletes. First of all noted the poor quality of the mast and arms (sails) in comparison with the price and also the fact that in the female category of the boat is designed for a relatively heavy and high athletes.
In the near future the website of the WFTU will provide readers more information on the rest of the boat candidates. And, of course, we describe in detail the discussions at the Annual conference of World Sailing.
