      The memorial race has begun!
According to the website http://www.russiansails2020.ru, a 200-mile regatta dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica and the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War was launched. For the first time, Rosrybolovstvo sailboats met in the southern latitudes of the Atlantic and implemented a world-wide project.

In the South Atlantic Ocean, Sedov, Kruzenshtern and Pallada met. The crews and cadets of each ship are configured only to win the race.

The large 200-mile regatta, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica and the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, was preceded by joint maneuvers and sports competitions between cadets.

The first to see on the Sedov was the approaching Pallada, cadet Ivan Khavansky, who at that moment was on duty on the steering wheel. Thus, Ivan became the winner of the contest announced by the senior assistant captain Pavel Starostin. Pavel Sergeevich handed Ivan a personal officer cap for his attentiveness and “big-eyedness” – it was in this place that he began his career as a skipper at the Pallas.

All day the Sedova team spent the photo and video recording of the approaching frigate and barque. Having approached a sufficient distance, Sedov, Pallada and Kruzenshtern greeted each other with a three-tone beep of a typhon. Cadets lined up along the sides and waved snow-white caps to their rival friends. They even managed to create a “choral bridge”, sending each other the best “chants” of their sailing ships, educational institutions and faculty groups. So they symbolized the connection of all maritime educational institutions of Russia, from Kaliningrad to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and universal unity for the realization of the noble ideas of the Expedition.

On the duty boat of the Kruzenshtern training and sailing ship, the head of the Department of Navigation and Practical Training, captain-mentor Mikhail Vyacheslavovich Novikov, arrived at the Sedov bark. With captains Yevgeny Nikolayevich Romashkin and Nikolai Kuzmich Zorchenko, he discussed the details of joint maneuvering, sports and, of course, the upcoming regatta.

And finally, the start of the 200-mile regatta was opened. By the announced time, the race participants arrived at the start line, and, stopping the main engines, were dominated by waves and wind – the memorial race began.

According to M.V. Novikov from the place of events, with the available wind forecast, the regatta may end Moscow time tomorrow afternoon, February 21. After completing the course, the captains will file a declaration stating the time they crossed the finish line and the total time in minutes spent traveling 200 miles.

However, in this race there will not be and cannot be winners and losers. The holiday of the sailing fleet of the Federal Fisheries Agency is initially devoid of a sporting component: after all, the idea of the regatta is symbolic and lies in the involvement in the heroic pages of the history of marine Russia and the traditions of the sailing fleet. Each member of the Expedition is given a unique opportunity to express respect for the courage of the Russians, who honored the interests of the state and saw serving him as the meaning of life.

In the meantime, we are waiting for news from sailing ships, we wish everyone strength of mind, nerves and muscles. We hope that the cadets will not let their tutors down and will complete the tasks of the race to the maximum. All the fair wind and good luck!
