These days in Porto Cervo in Sardinia is world Cup class yacht “Star”. Monday and Tuesday held two races.
According to their results, leading international (more than famous) crew on the yacht Carrera: tie – the best sailor in the world 1999, Olympic champion 1996 in the class “Finn” pole Mateusz of Kushnerevich; Shkotovo – a two-time medalist in the class “Star”, a four-time world champion Brazilian Bruno Prada (note that Olympic medals and three world Championships out of the four he made with the famous Robert Saddam on the steering wheel). Kushnerevich and Prada (the ones you see in the picture) 8 points (6th and 2nd wards).
Russian leaders class and Lev Zhivotovsky Alexey Shnyrev yacht Beda is after two races 42nd place (80 points, wards, 28 – 52).
Another representative of Russia – Alexey Selivanov, who, we will remind, in the beginning of this year in tandem with the American Luke Lawrence won the gold medal the first Junior (under 30 years) world championship in the same class of “Star” – now performs with other American – Jim by Levchinym. They take 33rd place (66 points, wards, 42 – 24).
What Selivanov connects with the by Rivkina, which also far beyond 60? Oh, it’s an interesting story. Let me quote part of the interview the same Selivanova, which he gave to the correspondent of Yacht Russia shortly after his victory at the Junior world championship:
“It all started in 2012 at the Kiel regatta when Josh Revkin, son, Jim, asked me “Finn” to participate in the competition. His yacht was in England, and my spare was on the trailer 20 metres from launch. I said, “Velkom” – and the next day our group joined Josh on my yacht.
And in the last racing day of the Kiel regatta I had to save him two miles from the shore. The wind by the end of the second race increased from 25 to 50 nodes and only 5 yachts from 34 were able to walk to the finish line. There were coups, and torn plumes, and broken masts.
Josh turned over in the middle of finishing gybing and 15 minutes of bathing were cold, so I couldn’t bend my fingers to reach the centerboard from the water. I had already finished and were in the harbour when he saw the upturned boat, came up, took it out of the water in your “Finn”, and he jumped to turn the second. So, exchanging yachts, reached the yacht club.
Well, sort of, nothing special, who of us wouldn’t do the same? But now we are like brothers. And Jim is our father.
Jim of 66 years, he is a cardiologist, is looking for a member of a research group of protein can stop the synthesis of bad cholesterol in our liver, and free time from work conducted on the boat or in the mountains. It was taught as a child to walk safely on a cruise boat, so in the race, he prefers to give up and not showing the Olympic results, but this does not stop him from participating in the competition”…
So. And finally – one more important detail: it was Jim Revkin Jim offered Alex his boat at the Junior world Cup, paid the entry fee and was advised to take Luke Lawrence in the steering. As the water looked!
