The 3rd stage of the St. Petersburg Sailing Week is over. Competitors came to one of the most beautiful Baltic islands – Gogland.
At 9.00 a.m. on August 12, a fleet of participants of the St. Petersburg Sailing Week launched from Sosnovy Bor on about. Hogland. This is one of the longest stages of the regatta – about 60 nautical miles. In the third stage of the regatta 22 boats took part, one of them from Finland.
The Finnish yacht Anastasia II, the ORC test group, finished first. The crew passed the distance in less than 10 hours. It is noteworthy that a foreign boat for the first time took part in the St. Petersburg sailing week.
“This is the first call that announces that the regatta is becoming international. We would really like more foreign yachts to come to our regatta. For our part, we will provide all the necessary assistance with the documents. We will send invitations to everyone in advance and more actively promote our regatta not only in Russia, but also abroad, ”says the director of the regatta, Valentin Naumov.
The Mir yacht (ORC test group) finished at Anastasia II, and the Slavia yacht crossed the finish line third. After recalculation of the results according to the ORC system, places in the group may change. In this test group, the results of the participants are determined by a special system that takes into account the size of the boat, sail area and other characteristics.
The wind was favorable throughout the race, the yachts went one tack, the course changed from a badewind to a gulfwind, which forced the race participants to change sails and choose the right course. On the approach to Gogland, the wind set and sharply increased to 12 meters per second, it was at this moment that many lagging boats, due to their skill, approached the leaders.
Following the first troika of the ORC group, the L-6 yachts finished. This is the largest fleet of classic yachts in these competitions. Recall that in the framework of the St. Petersburg Sailing Week, the Russian Championship is held in the national cruising-racing class of yachts “L-6”.
Of the “sixes”, “Nika” finished first, “Delta” in second place, and “Varyag” in third.
“When you start, you always want to win. The desire to win is probably the main thing. This race was without maneuvering, it was necessary to maintain speed and respond in time to wind changes, ”said the captain of the Nika yacht (class L-6) Vadim Manukhin.
In the Carter 30 test group, the Horn yacht is in first place, and the Pole in second place. In the Taurus test group, the first is Frigate, the second is Condor, the third is Margot.
Today there will be a race around about. Hogland. In the morning, August 14, the fleet of participants of the St. Petersburg Sailing Week will head for Vyborg.
