By decision of the Government Council for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, Smolny will include the Tolbukhin lighthouse, which stands a few kilometers from Kotlin Island, in the register of monuments of St. Petersburg. This was announced on May 28 by the city Committee for the Protection of Monuments.
Lighthouse Tolbukhin – one of the oldest lighthouses of the Baltic Sea. It is located to the north-west of Kronstadt, founded in 1719, and since then has carried out its service for 300 years.
Built according to the personal instructions of Peter I. The sketch of the tower preserved by Peter I was preserved, the basic dimensions are given in the sketch and the postscript is made: "… the architecture is given free to the architecture". On August 7, 1719 the construction of the wooden tower was completed.
In 1810 a stone tower was completed. From 1719 to 1736, the lighthouse was called Kotlinsky, and later it became known as Tolbukhin in honor of Colonel Fyodor Semyonovich Tolbukhin, who defeated the Swedish naval landing force in 1705 on the Kotlin Spit.
