The European Championship starts!
The 50th Trofeo Princesa Sofia IBEROSTAR 2019 regatta has just ended, and tomorrow, in the same place, in Mallorca, the first races of the European Open Windsurfing Championship in the RS: X class will be held.
The starting championship promises to be extremely representative: if one of the strongest chose to miss “Princess Sophia”, preparing for “Europe”, now there are practically no “refusers”. For example, in Mallorca, the winners of the Games-2016 in Rio, and the integrated world championship-2018 in Aarhus, will perform.
In total, 345 athletes from 43 countries, and not only European ones, intend to participate in the regatta. This, according to the official website of the championship, is a record for competitions in the class RS: X.
The largest teams were sent to Mallorca by France (55 people) and Israel (39). The Russian team is much more modest: the preliminary lists of junior and adult competitions included 11 of our windsurfers, among which we especially note the bronze medalist of the 2016 Olympics, Stephanie Elfutin (for her it will be the first official start in six months). Of course, we pin our hopes on Vladislav Burmistrenko and Alexander Askerov, who have just, on the "Princess Sophia", occupied the highest 5th and 6th places, respectively.
In general, we are waiting for great competitions. We will follow – and get sick!
