“The conditions are wonderful, the heat is unbearable!”
In Portorož (Slovenia), the world championship began in the class 470, in which 65 crews take part, including two from Russia.
On the first day of the competition three races were held. Literally 15 minutes before the start, as reported by RUS Youth Sailing Team, one of the Russian yachtsmen, Alexey Safonov, shared his first impressions:
"The weather conditions are excellent! A stable wind of 3-4 m / s, the heat is unbearable, but if you cool down in time, then you can live. The water is amazing! The atmosphere in the yacht club is friendly – true, a little tense. Everyone is getting ready for the start – they set up the boats and discuss racing instructions. Organizing a regatta at the highest level: food, fresh water, convenient launching, everything is of the highest standard. Set up our team in combat, the boat is set up, the boat is filled! In a couple of minutes we go out to warm up and go into battle! "
According to the results of the three races (with one release), Timofey Grigorin-Ryabov and Alexey Safonov occupy the 11th place – 9 points, the parishes (19) – 5 – 4. The second Russian crew – Olga Shoikhet / Denis Makarov – ranks 27th, there are 23 points, parishes 13 – 10 – (15).
