The choice of yachts for Charter: sailing or motor (part 1)

Not far off is the season of vacations, travel and adventure. Fans of rest on the water waiting for sea or ocean resorts and beaches, big Marina and small Marina. Some may prefer the Croisette and enjoy the easy beach cocktail, others will choose scuba and infinitely amazing underwater world, and someone will give vent to his inner sea wolf (or the wolf) and go free, their own independent travel on a Charter yacht under the hot Adriatic sun.

But how to choose a yacht? Do we want to go towards the horizon, catching the wind lifted the sails, or do we rush through the waves on the ship with a powerful diesel engine? The choice of yachts available for Charter fully depends on our preferences and desires. However, there are only three sailing yachts that are perfect for family and active vacation catamarans – double-hulled, relatively fast, comfortable and safe court, as well as motor yachts – for fans of speed on the water and luxury. So what kind of yacht to choose?

Sailing or motor?

The main difference between sailing and motor yachts is the speed. Modern motor yachts with powerful diesel engines can reach speeds from 10 to 60 knots, i.e., from 18.5 to 111 km/h In the open sea on a big wave, especially if the wave from the side or from the stern motor yacht bad heads, swaying and causing the rolling. In this case, the rescue the powerful motors which help to cope with the violence of the waves. The more powerful the engine, the greater the stability of the vessel, and the faster you can Dodge possible bad weather.

However, the rate paid increased fuel consumption. For example, two diesel engine capacity of 650 HP, depending on the mode of operation, can consume more than 100 litres of fuel per hour. A real example: a motor yacht, Princess 52, with two engines at 710 HP, following from split to Dubrovnik (coastal cities in Croatia) with an average speed of 20 knots (37 km/h), consumes fuel at roughly € 1 500. In practice, this means that this yacht will have more fuel at the gas station in the middle of the season is usually extremely difficult because of the queues. Often have to wait in line more than an hour. Therefore, if you rent a motor yacht or a big boat, be sure to pay attention to the average fuel consumption since fuel cost, maybe dangerously close to the cost of renting a boat.

Sailing yacht

Speed, which is able to develop sailing yachts, determined by the conditions of their intended use. Cruise sailing yacht designed primarily for maximum comfort for the crew. Because of the relatively small surface area of the sails classic cruise yacht runs at a speed of from 5 to 10 nodes (from 9.3 to 18.5 km/h). This means that for six hours of active sailing yacht can pass approximately 50 nautical miles, which should be taken into account when planning a route.

This type of court is designated a special philosophy of life at sea: speed is not important, and important contact with the sea, wind and nature. Sailors love the Adriatic not only because of the clean sea. In the Croatian part of the Adriatic coast, many Islands and a highly indented coastline with plenty of sheltered coves and harbours with comfortable safe marinas for yachts.

The short distance between sites allows for one day to have enough time for enjoying walking, sailing, swimming in some of the picturesque Bay and the possibility of overnight stay in any location. And this, of course, important. Go at low wind speeds of 2-3 node without the noise of the engine and smell the exhaust to enjoy the sun and sea – what could be better! The engines, which are equipped with sailing yachts, and catamarans ranging from 30 to 100 kilowatts designed to maneuver while Parking, swimming during a complete calm or to avoid stormy weather.

While sailing on a cruise sailing is usually consumption and the fuel consumption was rather insignificant. The average is about 100-120 euros per week. The fuel consumption is, of course, may slightly vary depending on sailing conditions and your preferences, most importantly, the more the boat goes under sail, the less fuel consumption. At full fuel of about 100-200 litres (depending on model ship) you can travel for a week.

In practice, this means that you rent a sailing yacht, go out with a fully filled fuel tank, and only at the end of a seven-day voyage to pay for spent fuel. If during the voyage will blow a favourable wind, and all week, you go under sail, the motor will only need to maneuver in ports and for recharging the batteries. As you know, many sailors passed the long distances, travel around the world even on a relatively small sailing yacht, which is impossible to implement on a large motor yacht without constant refueling.
