The battle of the Germans with the Belgians
As we already reported, on the Italian lake Garda in the town of Gargnano under the auspices of the European Sail Federation, the first official championship of the continent in the L30 class – EUROSAF L30 class European championship 2019 started. We bring to your attention the second report by Elena Otekina:

The battle of the Germans with the Belgians

On Wednesday, September 4, the second race day of the European Championship in L30 class began with a morning coastal race to Malcesine and back. The start took place in front of the picturesque center of Gargnano – in the same place where the main local race Centomiglia starts this weekend.

L30 yachts allow racing under almost any wind conditions from 2-3 to 35+ knots, and the extremely weak wind at the start of the coastal race did not become an obstacle for them. The participants set the zero code – and cheerfully passed the 12-mile race.

The leader of the first day, German Sharifa Rasmus Topsha chose to go along the coast of Limone, but this tactic did not work, and the Germans finished the race in last place. At the same time, the Belgian crew with Jonas Jerkens on the steering wheel was able to come second after another German team – Turmalin. This allowed the Belgian to withdraw his crew to first place in the overall standings, and Sharifa became second with a difference of 1 point.

After lunch, the main Gardezian wind Ora did not appear again, but the Race Committee managed to hold two races on a weak local south wind. The bitter struggle between the two fleet leaders continued.

In the short races of the second day, Sophie Fage got behind the wheel of the Belgian yacht instead of Jonas, and she managed to come 1st and 2nd, while Sharifa was able to finish 2nd and 1st.

However, after throwing out the worst race, Sharifa left the first place in overall for two days. In second place with a difference of one point is the team of Jonas and Sophie. The third final place was retained by the Hungarian Present Perfect, and the 4th remained with the Ukrainian crew of Tardex.

Today, on the final day of the championship, three races are planned, and according to the forecast there is a hope to check the fleet in stronger winds.
