French young Pelican and Israeli Maya Nadler in the lead after the first day of world championship RS:X Junior
Tuesday was the first competition day of the world championship in the class RS:X Championships. Races are held on the water area of the Neva Bay, in the Park of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg was launched the race village.
Northern capital pleases the most talented windsurfers from all over the world not only for their hospitality but also the great weather for the regatta. On Tuesday in the city it was Sunny and windy, perfect weather for Windsurfing. Westerly wind force of 12 to 15 knots allowed the riders glissirovat and show higher speed. The first race lasted only 24 minutes.
On the first day of ideal weather conditions enabled the judges to hold three races (half skill).
The day was a good wind situation in this area, – says the chief judge of competitions Vladimir Komel. – When we arrived in the racing area, we only had six knots, but then the wind increased and gained a very decent power. We, the judges, the water was very cold because the wind was cold, and racers raced naked. When we watched them, we were a little uncomfortable.
Three qualifying race brought many surprises. The main sensation – the failure of defending world champion Fabien Planasa. The Frenchman won all of the last key competitions – the world championship-2018, championship-2019 and the world Cup World Sailing-2019, but in St. Petersburg started badly. In the first race Planasa finished seventh, and the second was disqualified. Only in the third race, however, finished first. On the first day of competition the defending champion at the 27th place.
Among boys the lead rider from France Pelikan young, who scored 6 points, showing a third, second and first wards. Followed by followed by the Israelis, Reuven Hillel (7 points) and Ial Yochai Sror (8 points). In April, Hillel was the eighth in the European championship among juniors. For his first full season in the class RS:X at the international level.
Is a good day for me, but the third race was not very successful, – said Reuven Hillel. – I chose the left side and slightly miscalculated. In the beginning of the race was the 13th. Then I have worked very hard to rectify the situation and eventually finished fifth. I try to follow the calls of the wind and its force. In the last race I saw a strong entry on the left side, but did not guess. The main thing – to feel the moment. All my life I go Windsurfing. RS:X is the Olympic class. I chose it because I want to participate in the Olympics. That’s my goal.
Israeli windsurfers took the leading position in the women’s standings. Srilanka Maya Nadler (11 points), Naama Greenberg (12) and Lina geva (13) took first, second and third places. Best of Russia among girls – Yana Reznikova and Dana Cant – go on 5-m and 14-m places.
– The Israelis are very tough – I like to yell during the race, but if you’re not afraid and shout at them in response, they begin to consider you for a rival, says Dana School. – They workout all year round, every day the wind is blowing and a very strict system of selection (about five to six stages in a variety of weather conditions). To go to a world Cup or European from Israel, need to try very hard.
