During a storm Gloria, which caused troubles on the coast of Spain and the Balearic Islands on Monday, January 20, was recorded the highest wave ever recorded in the Mediterranean sea.
The authorities report referenced in http://www.sailweb.co.uk during a storm in the region of Valencia and the height of one of the waves made up 8.44 meters. That was a record for waves in the Mediterranean sea, officially recorded instrument. (Before this record was considered a wave height of 8.15 meters, recorded in 2003 at the island of Menorca.)
According to experts, this means that some waves during the storm could reach 13.5 meters!
The buoy installed off the coast of the Balearic Islands, also recorded a record figure: the height of one of the waves was 7.97 meters (former “achievement” – 6,33 meter – belowstanding in 2017. According to scientists, the waves in the area could reach a height of 14.2 meters!
