On June 2, in the Yacht Club of St. Petersburg at the All-Russian Regatta, the Optimist Association Cup in the "golden" fleet passed the first three final races.
The Optimist Class Association Cup is the final stage of selecting the strongest athletes for the Russian national teams representing our country at world and European championships.
On the third day of the competition, the weather deteriorated. Wind gusts reached 25-30 knots, which made it possible to hold the first three final races in the “golden” fleet, and only two in the silver and bronze races.
At the Association Cup again there was a change of leader: Artem Maksimkin returned to the first place (Vodnik, Dolgoprudny). He led the regatta with 16 points, showing the 1st, 5th and 4th parishes. The leader of the 2nd day of the competition, Andrei Sotnikov (Children's sports sailing team "Rautu") dropped to the second line – he has 17 points. Sotnikov finished 4th, 1st and 7th. Kirill Shunenkov, a sportsman from the Saint Petersburg Yacht Club Sailing Academy, rose to the third position. Petersburger could be the first, if not disqualification in the last race for breaking the rules at the start. He has 18 points (3-2-DSQ).
Among the girls in the first place is Arina Bratashenko (Taganrog, GBO RO SCHOR No. 3), she scored 81 points. Yekaterina Elistratova (CSKA, Moscow) has one point more, and Alisa Ivanovskaya (Rautu DSPK, St. Petersburg) is still third.

“The atmosphere is good,” says Daniil Larchenkov, athlete of the Rautu DSPK, who ranks fourth in the junior racers standings. “At the very beginning of the day the wind was quite stable, ideal conditions for racing. During the second race, the wind increased, so the wave became bigger. I hope that next year I will fight for the top places already in the senior competition. ”
Among the younger girls without changes: Dina Zhilkina is in the first place (Vodnik, Dolgoprudny), Yuliya Naymushina (FSPKK, Krasnoyarsk) – the second, closes the top three Polina Morozova (MBU SShOR No. 4, Sochi).
After the races in the Yacht Club of St. Petersburg, the 1996 Olympic medalist Georgy Shayduko met with the participants of the Association Cup. Famous yachtsman shared his experience with novice athletes. At the end of the speech, Shayduko presented his textbook "The Alphabet of the Optimist" to the yachtsman who asked the best question. Guide for young captains.
"Optimist" is a school. A yachtsman must learn a lot: knit knots, choose the sails correctly, ”said George Shayduko, silver medalist at the 1996 Olympics. “It seemed that this boat is a trough that should spank on the waves, but in fact it needs to be able to manage, keep the yacht in balance. There are many different moments on which the speed, the steepness and the final victory depend. ”
