Sodebo Ultim 3 dropped out of the fight
There are three participants in the Brest Atlantiques race, in which Ultim class maxi trimarans take part. Tom Coville and Jean-Luc Nelia, the skippers of the Sodebo Ultim 3 trimaran, were forced to stop the fight.
Recall that on Thursday the Sodebo had to make a pit stop in Cape Town to determine how serious the damage to the ship after a collision with an unidentified object. The verdict of the coast team of the trimaran, who quickly arrived in Cape Town, was disappointing: it is impossible to quickly repair the damage (especially the right float). Serious – and, most importantly, quite lengthy – repairs are needed.
Three other maxi trimarans go north along the shores of Africa. The trimaran Maxi Edmond de Rothschild (skippers Frank Kamma and Charles Codrelier) is still leading, and now (at 8.30 Saturday Moscow time) he is much faster than his pursuers at a speed of 31.5 knots. Macif Francois Gabard and Gwenole Gaine are again in second place: they are 357 miles behind the Rothschild and 10 miles ahead of Actual Leader (skippers Yves le Bleuve / Alex Pella).
