Sir Robin finished again!
Falmouth yesterday celebrated the 50th anniversary of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston’s completion of the world's first single and non-stop round-the-world sailing trip – and his victory in the Golden Globe race.
Like half a century ago, Sir Robin entered Falmouth Harbor on his famous 32-foot Suhaili. This time he was accompanied by more than a hundred yachts and boats, as well as the ship of the Royal Navy of Great Britain HMS Mersey.
At 15.25, at the very moment when Suhaili crossed the finish line 50 years ago, the warship turned on the siren. And on the shore, where thousands of lovers of sails (including those who once met Knox-Johnston from the Around the World), gathered an explosion of applause.
