School of Olympic reserve
On Tuesday, February 25, the Krestovsky Island sports school on sailing received the status of the School of Olympic Reserve. The director of the school, Natalya Fedorova, explained what this means for the school, students and trainers.
Ya.R. Natalya Borisovna, please accept our congratulations. Was it difficult to get status? How long did the process last?
N.F. Thanks! In fact, we achieved this title a year ago. At the end of 2018, the Ministry of Sports decided that we meet the criteria. And then it took us a whole year to settle all the bureaucratic moments.
In fact, we worked hard for several years, achieved results – so, at the moment, the national team for the quarter consists of our guys.
Ya.R. What does a status change mean for a school?
N.F. This will lead to technical changes. The most important thing is that the manning plan will change; now we can form groups of the highest sportsmanship. And for them we can request the allocation of more resources in the form of additional training hours in halls, pools and everything else.
This will also affect the salary of coaches. At the same time, training groups can be smaller, up to the point that the coach works with only one athlete.
Also now we can have a bet of sports instructors, which will allow senior pupils to earn little money. And most importantly, in this way we can attract children to coaching with younger children.
And since we have a lot of yachtsmen who study at sports universities, so they can combine theory and practice. And this is very important.
Ya.R. Will the change in status affect the format and selection criteria of pupils? Will requirements increase?
N.F. Here it is necessary to consider the situation from several sides. As for the enrollment of students in the elementary group, we take everyone who passes the standards established by the Ministry of Sports. But if the number of people wishing to engage increases, then you may have to think about an additional selection system.
In the future, we have already created a transfer system from group to group, and there will be no changes. Only new groups of the Higher sportsmanship stage appear, for which their own standards apply.
Ya.R. And how many people fall into the groups of this stage of preparation?
N.F. In fact, we had to artificially restrain development, keep cadets in groups at a lower level. But with the status of SCHOR, almost 30 people will immediately go to the group of the highest sportsmanship. These are athletes of the level of masters of sports and masters of sports of international class.
Ya.R. Good luck to you!
