Rothschild Builds Up Advantage
Behind the 17th day is the Brest Atlantiques, a marathon race of four maxi trimarans. The former leader is Maxi Edmond de Rothschild (skippers – Frank Camma / Charles Codrelier): behind his stern there are already more than 9 thousand miles traveled with an average speed of 24.8 knots. Agree, impressive.
On Wednesday evening, the Rothschild, circling Robben Island 12 km from Cape Town, was the first of the race participants to turn north (the race will finish, recall, in French Brest, where it started). After 8 hours, Macif (Francois Gabard / Gwenole Gain) approached Robben, but, unlike the leader, he went to Cape Town for a short repair, which lasted 6 hours. Thanks to this, Actual Leader (Yves le Bleve / Alex Pella) came in second place.
Now the situation is as follows. Actual Leader is 303 miles behind Maxi Edmond de Rothschild, but is 10 miles ahead of Macif. It can be assumed that in a few hours “Masif” will again reach the second position.
As for the fourth trimaran – Sodebo Ultim 3, Tom Coville and Jean-Luc Nelia, he is being repaired in Cape Town (steering problems), and his lag behind the leader is already 659 miles. What makes Sodebo a clear outsider for the race.
