Yesterday, speaking about the results of the world championship in the class of “Laser-standard”, which ended in Melbourne, we assumed that this regatta may have been the last one in the Olympic career of the great Brazilian Robert Saitta. How wrong we were!
Recall that Shittu – the winner of five Olympic medals in sailing races (including two gold) coming soon – in April – will celebrate 47 years. Age certainly makes itself felt, and as it was reported, on the eve of the final day of the championship, the Brazilian, feeling ill, decided to stop participating in the regatta.
“Unfortunately, Said ended up the last…, 42-m, in Gold fleet – we wrote yesterday. Summed up: – the Current League season may have been the last for the legendary Brazilian racer.”
So wrote not only we, but most of the sailing magazines in the world. And, imagine together mess!
Because it is not in the disease. As it turned out, Said decided to stop playing in Melbourne only after fulfilled the main task – get Brazil qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the “Laser”.
“Yesterday in Melbourne there were strong winds, so my coach and the physiotherapist made a joint decision to abandon the last three Cup races, not to get any injury that would hurt my preparation for the Olympic competition,” wrote Said on the page in “Facebook”.
That for Brazilians it will be already the seventh (!) The Olympics, like a poster, which we also found on the website of SIDA. And to be on the extra Games he’s not used!
