“Our results are not very good”

"Our results are not very good"
Natalya Ivanova, head coach of the national sailing team, shared with the press service of the All-Russian Volga Federal University about the completed third stage of the Hempel World Cup Series 2019.

"Our results are not very good"

“First of all, I must say about the weather,” began Natalia Ivanova. – Everyone was very surprised that there was absolutely no wind in Genoa. After these competitions, almost all of our riders noted that in Sochi, it turns out, there are excellent conditions for holding regattas. All days at the World Cup the wind was up to four knots, the judges barely forced out the race. The breeze did not come, and if it did, it was extremely unstable. And only in one day the wind was up to seven knots.

In general, a very weak, unstable, completely unforeseen wind. Dealing with him was very difficult. If we analyze the results of the regatta, it is clear that they are rather strange. In many classes there were very few races, so almost every one of them was decisive. One unsuccessful race could throw you far away – as happened in class 470 with the Swedes Karl-Fredrik Fock and Marcus Dakhammar, who "flew away" from first place to the top ten. In general, everyone moved a lot back and forth around the standings, and this is a sure indicator that something unusual was going on at the regatta …

As for our results, they are not very good, ”the head coach of the national team continued. – And only the crew of Jan Cech / Ivan Zotov in the 49th class again pleased (they became the 15th. – Editor's note.). For the guys, this is a very good performance, they are progressing confidently, they are in a good mood. We hope that this trend will continue during the season, and they will be able to complete the task: to take the Olympic license in December. They have time.

Sergei Komissarov, of course, wanted to see higher in the Lazer class standings. But, as in Mallorca, there was a double impression from his performance. There is a positive side – that all his parishes are in principle good for such a wind. Last year, he showed a much lower result in a weak wind. But in Mallorca, he managed to grab two "donut", and now – another. True, for which he was “promoted” twice, he and his coach did not understand. It happened at the beginning of the regatta, and of course, Sergei was strongly thrown back in the standings. Having received this disqualification, in the future he began to chase more prudently. He did not have the right to make a second mistake, which means that he could no longer start from the right angle, take risks, go in some direction … That is, this is a completely different style of racing. And here Sergei had to take a more conservative approach, which, of course, complicated the regatta.

In class 470, Pavel Sozykin and Denis Gribanov could not solve the tricky weather. And the penalty for false start in the first race, in which they finished third, did not contribute to this. Although, according to the guys, half a fleet got out, and only they and the French “recorded”. Of course, this is very disappointing. And when you have the first “wheel” race, it is much more difficult to lead the regatta further: you, like in the case of Sergey, can no longer take risks. Well, the wind did not understand. According to Pavel and Denis, when the wind is on the right, they are on the left. The wind is on the left – you have to go there for all the signs, but in the end it’s unprofitable again … Therefore, this is the result. Again, in the last two races, on the last day, it went very well, but both races were canceled. In general, all the guys went wrong. But they do not despair, understand where and what mistakes were made, and continue to prepare.

Next comes the European Championships – they start in May. The main starts this year are the World Championships, so everyone is preparing for the main regattas. Nevertheless, the European Championship is an important preparatory regatta with a good strong lineup. We will be rooting for our guys and see what they show.
