Only there are problems with the wind …
In the water area of the Neva Bay of the Gulf of Finland, the Sailing Championship of St. Petersburg is held. The regatta is hosted by the Yacht Club of St. Petersburg. These are the main city competitions for juniors.

Only there are problems with the wind ...

Competitions are held among athletes in the classes “Optimist”, “Zoom-8”, “Laser 4.7”, “Laser radial”, “Laser”, “Mini beam”, “Ray”, “Radial beam”, 420th, 29th, DNA, Techno, RS: X. The organizers set up three separate distances for different classes.

More than 350 young athletes take part in the regatta, which is a record for such competitions. In the championship of St. Petersburg, yachtsmen from 8 to 23 years old from the city’s strongest sailing schools – the Academy of Sailing, the School of Higher Sports Mastery in Water Sports, the Krestovsky Ostrov Sports School for Sailing, and the team of yacht clubs are racing “Baltic coast” and “Baltic” and others.

During the championship of St. Petersburg, the final stage of the regatta “Optimists of the Northern Capital. Gazprom Cup. ”

The first days of the regatta are not distinguished by a fresh and stable wind. On Saturday, the organizers were able to conduct only two races in the Techno and RS classes: X and one in the “DNA”. Representatives of the remaining classes did not even go out on the water.

By the second competition day, the wind did not increase, but remained in approximately the same condition. Wind in the water ran from 0 to 5 knots, quickly changing strength and direction. Such weather conditions were suitable only for windsurfers, who again demonstrated their skills in pumping. The rest of the fleet went into the water in the hope of good and stable calls, but only the Zoom-8 was lucky. The judges managed to conduct one race in this class.

– Today the wind was an unstable direction of power – says the chief judge of the competition, Alexander Karmanov. – Wind conditions did not allow us to conduct a full-fledged race, where the winner would be revealed according to the sporting principle, and not as a result of chance. According to our manuals for racing, the wind should be in a stable direction and with a force of at least 4 knots. At two distances we gave start to all groups, but soon the wind ended, so it was decided to stop the race. Then we had five more attempts, but each time the wind quickly subsided. The riders in the "Zoom-8" class were the first starting group, they just managed to finish in a good wind.

The only race in the “Zoom-8” class was won by Daniil Serdyukov, sportsman of the Rautu DSPK, the Academy of Sailing and the ShVSM in the Air Force. Elena Obedzinskaya (Krestovsky Ostrov) and Nikolai Grigoriev (Baltiets) finished after him.

In the “DNA” class, the leading three did not change compared to the first competition day. The leading positions are still athletes from the Academy of Sailing – Alexey Vorozhbitov, Akim Petrov and Anton Golubev.

In the Techno class, among St. Petersburg athletes there are no equal to the "academicians" either. Eva Boytsova scored 11 points and is located on the first line. Maxim Lukyanov and Alexei Burkin immediately behind her immediately by 29 points. The competition for the athletes of the Academy of Sailing is made up of guys from Meleuz and Moscow, but their results do not count towards the championship of St. Petersburg.

In the overall classification in the RS: X class, an interesting struggle for leadership unfolded. Despite a hand injury and a finger splint, Yegor Zhilin from the Academy of Sailing and Krestovsky Island leads the overall standings. It’s difficult for Yegor to fully pump up, therefore he holds leadership due to relatively stable results (2, 4, 4, 9 parishes). Two points are inferior to him Anastasia Shchedrina (Academy of sailing) and Mikhail Alexandrov ("Krestovsky island").

Recall that according to the results of the championship of St. Petersburg, the composition of the city’s team will be determined, which will represent the Northern Capital at the All-Russian regattas.

* Non-resident athletes are present in the results, but only athletes representing city schools go to the championship of St. Petersburg.
