On the CEO decided to save
The post of CEO of World Sailing will remain vacant until fall-2021, that is, another year and a half. This was stated in an interview with www.insidethegames.biz by the president of the International Sailing Federation, Kim Andersen.
Recall that the post of CEO of WS has been empty since last October, when he left Britain's Andy Hunt. And he left to the accompaniment of fierce criticism: Hunt, although he is a well-known sports manager, was never fond of sailing and, moreover, did not hide his skeptical attitude to yachting.
The new general director of the federation, of course, would not hurt – if he were a management specialist and at the same time would be a true fan of the sail. But alas, there are not many such specialists in the world of sports business, and they are expensive.
The salary of Andy Hunt, criticized by the sailing community, was $ 248,379 in 2018. It is clear that the new CEO will receive no less. And besides, half of this amount will have to be paid in the first year of its work to a company specializing in the selection of top managers.
That's why the World Sailing leadership, which does not hide the fact that the federation has faced serious financial difficulties, decided to postpone the appointment of a new general director. This appointment is by no means postponed until the fall of 2021, when the International Olympic Committee will transfer to the World Sailing accounts its share for hosting the Games in Tokyo – 15.3 million dollars.
It was decided to save on the CEO, although, as Kim Andersen emphasized, the circle of applicants for a high post has already been outlined in the federation. All of them, in addition to the qualities mandatory for such a position, are experts in sailing. What, according to the same Andersen, Hunt was so lacking.
