Number 7 – Spain
The number of teams participating in the second season of the SailGP racing series has increased to seven. Less than a month before the start of the first stage of the competition – February 28-29 in Sydney – it became known: the Spaniards will take part in the SailGP races.
Thus, teams of Australia, Denmark, France, Great Britain, USA, Japan and Spain will compete for the million dollar prize this year.
One of the organizers and owners of SailGP, the famous Russell Cutts, introduced the Spaniard skipper in a short presentation. They will be 26-year-old Jordi Xamar – but not immediately. First, Jordi will perform at the Games in Tokyo (he is one of the contenders for medals in class 470).
In the meantime – temporarily – the New Zealander Phil Robertson will be the skipper of the Spaniards. Recall that last year he led the SailGP team in China, which then took an honorable third place, but this season is no longer in the young series.
