Nord Stream Race postponed to September
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the offshore regatta Nord Stream Race, which runs along the route Kiel – Copenhagen – Stockholm – Helsinki – St. Petersburg, scheduled for June 2020, has been postponed. It is planned that the regatta will start on September 5.
The health of athletes, guests, spectators, members and employees of participating clubs and organizers is a top priority for the organizers of the Nord Stream Race race and its partners PJSC Gazprom and NordStreamAG. The organizers will continue to closely monitor the development of an ever-changing situation in order to finally approve the new regatta schedule no later than June.
“The official postponement of the race will remove some uncertainty, allow teams to make changes to their calendar, and help clubs and teams get ready,” explains Vladimir Lyubomirov, Commodore of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
“The Nord Stream Race will be held for the 9th time. In the current situation, we are doing everything possible to hold a regatta this year, changing the timing. Starting on September 5 will allow you to start the race along with Kiel Week, which can also take place after the postponement of the dates, ”says Lyubomirov. The organizers are in close contact with the relevant authorities in order to be prepared to further adjust the Nord Stream Race race program and minimize potential health risks.
