The site admitted that the news is not the latest: the attacks took place in February. However, according to journalists, the information may be useful for those who plan to visit Santiago (this is the largest of the islands of the Cape Verde archipelago) in the future.
So, two charter yachts – Oceanis 393 (with three passengers) and Sun Odyssey 519 (with five) – were attacked on the island of Santiago. After dark, boats were attacked by armed bandits. Everyone who was on the yachts was tied up, after which the bandits began to look for valuable things. As a result, cash, credit cards, mobile phones, tablets, watches and jewelry became their prey. Even the wedding rings!
In the morning, the crews of both yachts turned to the police, but there they did not help. According to YACHT online, the impression was that the police were simply afraid to get involved with the bandits, who, most likely, were "guest performers" from Senegal, located relatively close to it.
