More than 1300 young yachtsmen!
Today, on the famous XXXVII LAKE GARDA MEETING OPTIMIST CLASS regatta on Lake Garda in Italy, the first races will be held, the press service of the Krestovsky Island Sailing School reports.
This year, 35 countries and more than 1,300 young sailors are represented at the Garde. 10 pupils of trainers Ilya Elysheva and Ekaterina Vinotovskaya represent our school.
Yesterday a parade of the opening of the competition and the traditional Country Cup took place, in which one participating rider competes from the participating states. Danila Ivanov, an athlete from the Krestovsky Island school, represented Russia in a pleasant “warm-up” event. He took the 17th place.
“The races were held in the coastal zone so that the fans could comfortably watch them,” said Ilya Elyshev, an Optimist class coach. – Before the start, we managed to spend four training days. The guys were not in fresh water for half a year. And now at first we just got used to it, worked on speed. They remembered the water area, because many have already been to Garda. Here a strong wind is blowing steadily in clear weather. One day it was about 23 knots and even minor breakdowns occurred: Danila Ivanov broke the block right on the water. It's good that this happened at the training.
In general, we tried not to sit on the water for more than three hours, in order not to burn out and not to get sick. After all, responsible starts ahead.
