More stable than Kalinina – only Frost

The final stage of the World Cup in kiteboarding in the discipline "Formula kite" was held in Italy. Elena Kalinina took second place among women in the sum of the stages.

More stable than Kalinina - only Frost

For the third year in a row, the most prestigious world series finished in Sardinia. The strongest riders came to the city of Cagliari to play the World Cup medals, and at the same time a solid prize fund.

Competitions were held on one of the most picturesque coasts of Italy: in the Gulf of Angels, on the legendary Poetto beach. At the start came a mixed fleet of 66 riders (42 men and 24 women). During the final stage in Sardinia, good weather for kitesurfing was established. In Cagliari, a cold north-west mistral wind of 20-30 knots was blowing, which allowed the riders to show the highest speeds.

It is pleasant that the Italian water area brought good luck to the athlete of the Academy of Sailing of the Yacht Club of St. Petersburg Elena Kalinina. Let our racer become only the fourth in the Cagliari in the women's standings, but this was enough to climb to second place in the series. The fact is that Elena’s main competitor in the fight for the World Cup silver – Kirstin O’Brian (USA) – failed the stage in Cagliari, finishing only 13th.

Due to its stability, Kalinina managed to tear out silver at the final stage. In the overall standings, she beat O’Brien by 21 points.

Recall that the athlete of the Academy of Sailing was the third in Gizzeria, the second in Weifang, the third in Pintan and the fourth in Cagliari. Only Daniela Moroz, an American inaccessible to competitors, was more stable, winning all four stages and becoming the absolute champion.

In the men's standings, the entire pedestal was occupied by the French. Axel Mazella won gold, Nico Parlier won silver, and Maxim Nocher won bronze.
