Recently we wrote about the tri-Komorebi, which develops KB VPLP, and which should use cruise sails OceanWings. But as it turned out, the French designers did not stop there.
Bureau VPLP beginning reportedly designing its first marine transport vessel using cruise sails type Oceanwings.
This 121-metre vessel type RO-RO (Roll on – Roll off) for the transport of components of the space rocket Ariane 6 from Europe in French Guiana. Equipped with four masts with wings type Oceanwings, the ship should have minimal impact on the environment.
ArianeGroup, the main contractor of the launch vehicle Ariane, announced a tender for the transportation of the different parts of a new rocket Ariane 6 from Europe to the launch pad in Kourou, French Guiana.
The final construction contract was signed with “Alizes” specializing in environmentally friendly modes of transport. KB VPLP Design was attracted by “Alizes” to solve the problem of designing the ship, called Canope.
One of the main innovations of the ship became a hybrid propulsion system that includes three (or four) of the mast 30 meters high, providing a total sail area of 1452 square meters.
These winged sails help the main propulsion system of the ship to reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions on average by 30%.
A new company called Lermontov Tver was specially created for the specific purpose of development of Oceanwings.
