Minus Malta
The rumors that we wrote yesterday were confirmed: the Royal Malta Yacht Club notified the organizers of the 36th America's Cup draw that the Malta Altus Challenge team was ending its existence.
The initiative group led by businessman Pascal Cataldi was never able to raise enough money to implement the Malta Altus Challenge program. The promises of the Government of Malta to fully support the project – primarily from the financial side – remained beautiful words. According to foreign publications, none of those who worked over the last nine months to create a team, has not yet received a cent.
Recall that the Malta Altus Challenge was one of three teams that applied for participation in the 36th America's Cup draw at the last moment. In connection with the rumors that following the Maltese, Dutch DutchSail and American Stars & Stripes Team USA may announce their withdrawal from the project, the New Zealand organizers of the draw demanded that the leadership of these teams confirm their continued participation or non-participation before July 1 of this year.
Four more teams guaranteed their participation: this is Team New Zealand Cup defender, Italian Luna Rossa, American Magic from UCLA and British INEOS Team UK.
