The construction of the conceptually new motor yacht Majesty 120 has been completed at the Gulf Craft shipyard.
The project of this yacht was first presented by the Gulf Craft management at the exhibition in Monaco last year. Even then, the journalists were informed that the yacht under construction would become innovative in many ways and would ideally suit both the European and overseas markets. It is curious how a shipyard from the United Arab Emirates will succeed, given such different taste preferences of the inhabitants of the Old and New Worlds. The yacht has not yet been “launched”, but we managed to find out something about it.
The exterior design of the Majesty 120, as well as the entire engineering of the three-deck yacht, was handled by Gulf Craft’s own specialists. Its silhouette turned out to be absolutely classic, and the “personal” appearance of the vessel is formed not so much by the lines of the deck and superstructure, but by the shape of the glazing both above and in the hull. It is her angularity, characteristic of the latest Majesty models from the Superyacht Collection, that became the autograph of the designers of the Gulf Craft studio. Another designer’s element is a transparent false side on the extended sections of the main and second decks.
The main deck is given to the dining area (cockpit aft) and a block of premises, which includes a master cabin, a living room with another dining table, but already inside, and a large galley between them. In the stern itself, a “beach club” is projected, as an option to which the Opacmare transformer system with five steps and a carrying capacity of 1300 kg is offered. And the garage can easily fit, for example, a Williams DieselJet 505 tender with a separate filling station.

Above the deck in the bow there is a recreation area (we go in the direction of the stern), a wheelhouse with an adjacent upper panoramic saloon and an open area with free arrangement of furniture. In the basic version, there is another large table with chairs. And the sundeck located above (not the flybridge, mind you: there is no control station) is a purely entertainment area with sofas, a large bar and grill, sun loungers and a jacuzzi.
Interior concept: maximum comfort in a sophisticated, simple design
The win-win layout certainly matches the views and perceptions of most potential buyers of this type of boat on both sides of the Atlantic (there is, however, an Asian market). Especially when you consider the shipyard’s statement of significant work done to optimize deck space. As a result, Majesty 120 has 30% more usable area than other yachts in the same class, which is generally typical for Majesty.
The upper deck (aft view) is partially covered by a hardtop; jacuzzi is in its bow
Open upper deck (forward view) with well equipped wet bar, sofas and tables. Such a coating is practical and solid.
The layout of the yacht includes six cabins. We have already mentioned the master suite on the main deck, two large cabins are located on the lower deck amidships, there are two more guest cabins (instead of one of them on the port side, a small saloon with a sofa and a coffee table is possible) and a VIP cabin in the bow. It’s also easy to get a nice extra living room out of it. Naturally, there is a crew of seven on board, for which their own premises with a dining room are allocated (the captain’s cabin is located separately, next to the wheelhouse).
For the interiors, Gulf Craft hired the Italian studio Cristiano Gatto Design. They have already collaborated on the Majesty 175 and 140 projects; by the way, the latter in Cannes last year was awarded the World Yacht Trophies prize for the best interior design in the category of displacement and transitional yachts from 30 to 50 m in length.
The Majesty 120 required a stylish modern interior with an emphasis on minimalism that would meet the tastes of potential customers from different regions, as Majesty yachts sail the waters of the World Ocean in the waters of many countries. Cristiano Gatto himself said that the interiors he had invented, bright and fresh, should be liked by many. Among the finishing materials, there is a light wood – designer pearl sycamore veneer lacquered, Calacatta Gold Vein marble on floors / countertops and Travertino Silver decorative stone.
Now a little about the technical side of the project. The case with pronounced cheekbone is vacuum-infused from glass materials using carbon. Individual constructions are made as sandwich with balsa filling. Judging by the specifications, the yacht is packed to the limit with Furuno navigation electronics: duplicated MFD 17 ″, two centimeter-range radars (6 and 3 cm), two echo sounders, an autopilot, a Flir night vision camera, zone surveillance cameras (sundeck, aft cockpit, engine compartment ), AIS (automatic vessel ID will be mentioned later). There is a desalination plant with a capacity of 140 l / h, a powerful air conditioning system, underwater lights – 12 LED devices, on-board communications, a new seawater intake system for cooling all consumers, smart monitoring systems for everything …
The main salon is cozy and pleasantly decorated. As you can see, minimalism has ceased to be a super-skeptical style.
The panoramic saloon fully lives up to its name thanks to the huge side windows and glass doors
Double cabin on the starboard side. As in other cabins, it has its own dressing room.
Bathroom in the guest cabin
Perhaps a small technical revolution can be considered the almost complete abandonment of hydraulics on board with its high pressure pipelines, which was replaced by electrical systems for pitch stabilizers, steering, thrusters, etc. Everything should be controlled from the main switchboard. Such a solution will reduce noise, the likelihood of failures, eliminate the need to operate the main engine with attached hydraulics in the drift and on the roads, simplify the work of the crew and reduce maintenance costs.
Avoiding hydraulics on board will simplify crew work and reduce maintenance costs
And what speed can this yacht with two MTU 16V 2000 M96L (Rolls-Royce) diesels with a capacity of 2600 hp. from. In February, she was launched, and in April, sea trials began, during which the systems, mechanisms and devices of the vessel were comprehensively checked. The shipyard does not report the received data, it is too early to think about journalistic tests … But is it possible to hide something in our time, which is completely permeated with digital technologies? So, on the Marine Traffic website (a popular Internet resource that allows you to track the location of the vessel using the signals of AIS receivers), information dated April 16, 2020 appeared. According to this report, a UAE-flagged vessel of “unknown type” Majesty 120 was spotted in the Persian Gulf (coordinates of the point are given). In an NW wind of 3 points, it went at a speed of 30.6 knots.
If this is the actual maximum speed at 2450 rpm, then the guaranteed 30 knots for a 200 tonne yacht is impressive. By the way, the analysis of the running characteristics of yachts with similar dimensions and displacement with the same engine installation convinces of the reliability of these figures. And taking into account the almost double in comparison with some of them the fuel reserve and bench characteristics of the fuel consumption of the engines, even at full speed you can count on a cruising range of about 500 miles, and at 12 knots – up to 2000 miles.
The shipyard was going to present the new Majesty 120 in the first half of May, but the coronavirus pandemic interfered with the plans. According to MBY in the yacht agency Jonacor Marine, which is the official distributor of the shipyard in Russia, the boat is currently at the shipyard in Dubai, where it can be viewed at any time.
