Listen to head coach

The head coach of the national team in sail Natalia Ivanova shared with the Service information of the ROC plans for the upcoming season. We decided VA this interview to meet.

Representatives of the national team of Russia on sailing complete preseason. At the end of March in Palma de Majorca will host the international regatta for the prize of the Princess Sophia, which the coaching staff will be an indicator of readiness of athletes to continue the fight for Olympic licenses.

— Following the launch in Majorca will determine the sailors who will perform at the European championship in 2019 and the test events that will take place from 15 to 22 August in the Olympic waters near the island of Enoshima, about 100 kilometers from Tokyo, told the information service of the ROC head coach of the Russian national team in sailing, Natalia Ivanova.

— In Rio de Janeiro, the Russians were presented in five disciplines of sailing. For a number of Olympic licenses count now?

— As for the Games in 2016, we plan to qualify in five classes of vessels. The Federation relies on the disciplines in which our athletes can count on medals. To go to Tokyo just for the fact of participation in the Games — too expensive in our sport.

— What starts will be the key for the Russians in the pre-Olympic season?

— In 2019 will be played, most of the remaining Olympic licenses. Just before the Games-2020 will take several qualifying regattas, however, to postpone the decision on the last moment do not want.

The struggle to qualify for the Olympic games will unfold at the may European championship in a class “Finn” which will take place from 10 to 18 may in Athens and world Championships in classes a “Laser” and “Laser radial” in the Japanese city of Sakakini and 470 class at Enoshima (Japan) from 2 to 9 August. Qualifying will be a world forum in classes 49, 49 FX “To 17” in December this year in New Zealand. As for the men’s Windsurfing, licenses will be awarded in September in the Italian town of Torbole.

— At last year’s world Championships in Aarhus the efforts of Stephanie Eluting was conquered by license class RS:X (Windsurfing). Who will follow her example?

— I really hope Sergey Komissarov and other members of the class “Laser” included in the Olympic race. Guys train a lot, are progressing and have a chance to go to Tokyo.

— What can you say about the fairer sex?

Girls last season was not the best way. The chances that anyone in Eluting Stephanie, will be able to pass the Olympic selection, not so much. However, if they maintain the attitude with which you train now, the dream about the Olympics could become a reality.

— What are the chances of the crew Pavel Sozykin/Denis Gribanov to qualify for their second Olympic games?

— Integrated world Cup in Danish Aarhus, Paul and Dennis were not very close to solving the problem. Unfortunately, yachting 470 class passed with almost no wind. Performance in these conditions is impossible to call them “horse”.

By the way, a month later after the competition in Denmark Sozykin and Gribanov took the sixth place in the regatta, held in the Olympic area. The guys were there ahead of many strong rivals, including winners of the 2018 world Cup.

— Why the variability?

The problem is that in Russia Paul Sozykin and Denis Gribanov, in fact, no one with whom to train. To work out the acceleration of the boat in problem for this crew of low wind alone is extremely difficult. The rest of the 470’s crew significantly inferior to them in class, and regularly arrange friendlies abroad is not possible: the closer the Olympic games of foreign teams more and more close to each other.

Well, in this year, Sozykin and Gribanov was able to work out in Miami with a group of foreign sailors and take part in two international regattas. Let them go on his boat, but this experience will help them in the fight for spots in Tokyo.

— What form to pre-Olympic season fit bronze medalist at the 2016 Games Stefania Elfwine?

Last season Stephanie was a decline caused by health problems. Now the reason she could not fully train, identified and addressed, and we want to believe that a black strip is left behind. A few days ago Elfwine returned from the Spanish of Cadiz, where he spent the first six months of training camp. According to coach athletes Victor Ayvazyan, Stef quickly gaining shape.

The European championship in class RS:X will be held in early April, so the chance to approach it in the best shape the athletes a little. Its main task in the pre-season to prepare for the world Cup which will be held from 22 to 28 September in the Italian town of Torbole.

— How do you evaluate the Olympic medal prospects of Eluting?

— It’s too early to say. The indicator of the readiness of athletes for the Olympic games is the world Championships in Takapuna (New Zealand) in February 2020.

— How to build Stefania preparation for the main start of four years?

— In recent years, she trains mostly with men. Such a struggle allows Eluting to progress. On the eve of the main starts of the season are planning to organize for our leader a number of friendlies with strong foreign players, with whom Stephanie good relationship.

— How in four years, increased competition in the women’s Windsurfing?

— If earlier at the international competitions were about 60 girls, but now their number increased to 80. However, fighting for the medals all the same ten as in 2016. I can only note the progress of Chinese women. They really improved in skill.

— Are there any plans for an adaptation levy on Enoshima? Similar experience before Rio de Janeiro was quite effective.

We were among the first to apply for participation in the program of the ROC “Adaptation”. The gathering at the venue of the Olympic regatta will allow to solve questions of acclimatization, to explore the Olympic waters and the wind rose, to try wave. Planning the final stage of preparation for the Olympic games without such work impossible.

By the way, for the second year we work closely with the Innovation center for OCD and, as the head coach, I can say that our athletes were able to significantly improve their performance.
