Leaders have leapfrog
For the sixth day, the 3600-mile Vendée-Arctic-les-Sables d’Olonne race continues, and the fight in the distance is really exciting.
Most of the distance has already been covered, and the so-called “UNESCO buoy” (installed northwest of Iceland at the intersection with the 60th parallel, where the participants had to turn south, to Azores) was far behind. But the advanced group of riders is still very tight, and the leaders take turns, sometimes several times a day.
Now, on Friday, at 11.45 Moscow time, German Boris Hermann is ahead in SeaExplorer, but two of them at once – Frenchmen Jeremy Beyu (Charal) and Keven Escofier (PRB) are behind each 3.7 miles. The best of the women Samantha Davis (Initiatives) and Charlie Dalen (APIVIA) are also not far – 7.1 and 8.5 miles behind respectively.
The first riders are supposed to finish at Les Sables d'Olonne on July 14th.
