It is a large “little catamaran” with a ceiling height of 1.95 m in the saloon and cabins. And what is most surprising, this “baby” has become the best-selling catamaran in the world. To date, more than 350 cases of this model have been sold.
The latest version of the Lagoon 380 has the S2 prefix, which stands for “updated and improved”. The interior was updated, additional portholes were added and the color of the wood paneling was changed. For convenience when boarding, steps are made in the hull.
The body is made according to the “sandwich” technology, impregnated from vinylester resins and polyester. Balsa wood is molded inside for rigidity. The deck is also made using sandwich technology. Bulkheads are made of laminate.
We tested the starboard version with a master cabin. In the stern there is a large bed 1.6 x 2 m, a coffee table, a wardrobe and shelves for clothes. There is a separate toilet with a shower in the bow.
In the left hull there are two double cabins with toilets and showers. The dimensions of the cabins are very adequate.
The charter version of the catamaran offers a four-cabin layout.
The galley is located in the saloon on the starboard side – very convenient, as you can transfer meals to the salon or directly to the cockpit. The galley is equipped with a gas stove, a two-section sink, a refrigerator.
Hot and cold water is standard. The boiler is included in the basic equipment.
There is a chart table on the port side of the cabin.
Considering the size of the catamaran, the salon is not very large, but it is quite comfortable for 7-8 people, not including the skipper.
The cockpit is comfortable and functional. There are two voluminous lockers for things. On the starboard side there is a steering wheel with a dashboard and engine gauges.
The visibility from the helmsman’s seat is quite decent, although in the marina when mooring it is better to play it safe and send a sailor to the tank.
In the standard version, the catamaran is equipped with two 18 hp Volvo engines, but as an option, you can install 21 and 30 hp engines.
As expected, from two engines the catamaran is perfectly controlled under the engine. In the marina, you will not experience any mooring problems. At 2000 rpm, we reached 6.5 knots, and adding revs to 2800 – 8 knots.
For a ship of this size, it should be assumed that access to the motors will be through the aft cabins. But on the Lagoon 380S2, everything is done much more thoughtfully – special hatches located on the transom lead to the motors. Very practical!
The engine compartments are lined with soundproofing material from the inside. Thanks to this, the noise level from the engines is extremely low.
The standard version is equipped with an electric windlass.
On the Lagoon 380S2, the mast height is 15 m above the water level. The area of the grotto with through battens is 48 sq. M, and genoa is 31 sq. M. All ends are brought out into the cockpit, which is very convenient for working with sails.
We were lucky with the weather – warm, moderate wind, cloudless. With a wind of 13 knots, we reached a speed of 8 knots. Pretty decent for a catamaran of this size. It is very simple to operate – the catamaran does not lie on the steering wheel, does not prowl. The wave rises perfectly.
In general, the high level of manufacturing of the body and interior can be noted. In my opinion the Lagoon 380S2 is an excellent value for money!
