On Saturday in Cascais with two races completed the regatta 24th HM King Juan Carlos, who was at the same time the second stage of the new European series in the Dragon class. And the conclusion is, we emphasize, was in the highest degree dramatic.
We will remind, what was the situation in the table after three days of the regatta and the 6-minute races. Ahead – to our delight – was the Russian yacht RUS27 Anatoliy Loginov, 25 points. On point less was in command MON2 from Monaco Jens Ratsaka. In third place – from 27 points – was SUI311 the Swiss Hugo Stenbeck, but the same points had RUS76 Dmitriy Samokhin. And finally, on point 28 – the British GBR820 with skipper Grant Gordon.
The results of the first Saturday race, held in the breeze a little more than 10 knots, have added to the General tension. Won it NED412 Dutch skipper Peter Heerema. At the finish came Gordon, Stenbeck, Samokhin and logins. And now the situation was quite confusing: Gordon Stenbeck and Loginova was 30 points, Samokhina – 31, while Heerema and Ratsaka – 35. And each one could claim the final victory. All had to decide race No. 8.
The wind speed by the time of launch has already exceeded 20 knots. And then came the denouement: five crews (including the command words!) broke the rule U-flag. Disqualification and the end of all hope!
The final race was won by Gordon – he was the winner of the regatta. But looks like in the end it is the top five:
1. Grant Gordon – GBR820– 12, 1, 3, 7, (UFD), 5, 2, 1 = 31
2. Hugo Stenbeck – SUI311– 2, (23), 12, 1, 8, 3, 3, 3 = 33
3. Peter Heerema – NED412– 7, 2, (16), 8, 1, 16, 1, 2 = 37
4. Dmitry Samokhin – RUS76– 2, (21), 9, 9, 5, 2, 4, 7 = 38
5. Jens Rathsack – MON2– 11, 6, 2, 6, (UFD), 1, 9, 4 = 39
Team Loginov, atacamena disqualification remained the seventh – 50 points, parishes 20 – 3 – 7 – 3 – 6 – 6 – 5 – (UFD).
Our publisher Basil Senators (who, with pride recall, is the head of the International Association of class “Dragon”) on RUS34 took 12 th place. Victor Fogelson (RUS37) – 17-E.
Next, the 3rd stage of the European series in the Dragon class will be held on 3 – 6 July in Kühlungsborn (Germany).
