Ended the 23-day race on the famous Tea route from Hong Kong to London, which continue on the Maxi trimaran IDEC Sport French skipper Francis Joyon and his crew of four.
Sunday afternoon Sport IDEC crossed the equator, and did so at a snail’s speed 7 knots. The main reason is the extremely wide band of Equatorial calm. Over the last two days the average speed of the trimaran was not much above 9 knots.
As a result, IDEC Sport has lost the advantage over the current owner of record of the Tea racing Maxi-trimaran Maserati Multi 70 with skipper Giovanni Soldini (2018). If two weeks ago Francis Joyon and Co. ahead of the virtual opponents at 750 miles, and three days ago, 450 miles, now…
Now (Monday at 11.00 Moscow time) the advantage of IDEC Sport above the graph Maserati is just 36 miles (despite the fact that a few hours ago was even smaller – 25 miles). Tears!..
Also ahead – when approaching Europe – Guyana waiting for another calm baggy stripe. Makes you wonder about whether it is possible to improve the record, which, recall, is 36 days, 2 hours, 37 minutes and 2 seconds.
