Great start!
The second stage of the RC44 Cup started in Croatia. In the starting race, "Nika" and "Battleship" were in the top three!
Many years later, at the end of May, the RC44 class fleet returned to Istria (Northern Croatia). Here, back in 2012, the world championship of this class was held with 16 crews.
Interestingly, the first three of that “world” are still on the starting line. These are the world champions of 2012 Peninsula Petroleum, the winners of the 2012 season (and many others) – British Aqua and veterans of the class, Slovenes Ceeref, who were third in that season.
As in October 2012, Istria met the fleet RC44 of the new season as part of nine boats with light unstable winds. A day earlier, in the rain, three training races took place, and on May 30, after a long wait, the first and only so far held race of the second stage of the RC44 Cup started.
After an unsuccessful start, when the “Battleship” left in the second echelon on the right side of the tack, it seemed that the crew of Kirill Frolov had no chance. But the team managed not only to win back the gap, but also to bend around in the top three.
At the first lee segment, the Battleship even headed the fleet, but at the finish line it was only the third, after Nicky and the winner of the race – Ceeref.
The start of the second race of the day could not be given: after a long wait, the wind did not stabilize in the direction.
“Although we had a plan to go right after the start, the start itself turned out to be unsuccessful — it prevented Peninsula Petroleum,” says Kirill Frolov, the battleship of the Battleship, but we seriously fought against the first sign and turned out third. Further, in the full course, we just flew away, as we went on strengthening. On the second mark, they were bending around the second and finishing third. Despite the unstable winds, and the barrel from the shore with reinforcements, all in equal conditions is not a lottery here, but rather, by chance, you can lose, and not win. ”
After an unsuccessful stage of the European series in the class Melges20, Vladimir Prosikhin pleased the fans with a confident start in his favorite class RC44. Having completed the first stage on the second line, Nika opened the competition in Croatia with the second result, although there were chances to win this race.
As for the series debutants, Yekaterinburg "Tavatuy", who were so pleasantly surprised in April in Montenegro, the first day of the second stage did not bring them positive emotions. Let the start was not bad, but the winds prevented to hold the position.
The Adris 44Cup Rovinj races continue until Sunday, June 2, inclusive.
