Gold took Blair and Tuke!
In Geelong (near Melbourne), the world championships in the Olympic classes 49er, 49erFX and Nacra17 ended today.
In the 49er class, who would you think? Won the most titled modern day sailors, New Zealanders Peter Burling and Blair Tuke. We won’t list all their achievements right now (this is a long story), we’ll just say that the Olympic champions of Rio 2016 together win already at the 6th World Championship in 49er!
Before the final day of the regatta, Burling and Tuke took the second place – however, they were only a point behind the Austrians Benjamin Bildstein and David Hussl. Well, today everything quickly became clear – after the New Zealand stars came first twice in the two final races.
As a result, Burling and Tuke have 38 points. In second place are the Spaniards Diego Botin and Iago Lopez Marra – 58. While Bilstein and Hussel remained fourth in all, they have 61 points.
In 49erFX, Tamara Echegoyen / Paula Berselo (Spain) became champions – 42 points. Castling also happened here: the leaders until the last day, Charlotte Dobson / Saskia Tidey (Great Britain) eventually finished second – – 52.
And finally, Nacra17. The first and second and then changed places. British Championship John Gimson / Anna Burnett – 67 points. Australian brother and sister Nathan and Haley Outterwich received 68 silver awards.
P.S. Recall that the Russian yachtsmen in the regatta, which was held in Geelong, did not participate.
