Games without spectators?
This question concerns, of course, far away are only sails, and all kinds of sports. And every day it becomes more and more relevant. Will the Olympic Games take place in Tokyo this summer?
The President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, said the other day that preparations for the Tokyo Olympics should go on schedule, despite the situation with the coronavirus. According to him, the IOC, in close cooperation with the Japanese government and the Organizing Committee of the Games, is working to ensure the safety of athletes and spectators.
At the same time, the oldest member of the IOC, Richard Pound, said in an interview that the final decision on the Olympics 2020 will be made at the end of May. Pound emphasized that in the worst case, Games can generally be canceled.
But here is a new twist. As the London Daily Mail wrote, the 2020 Olympics can take place in Japan … without spectators! Like, in IOC circles, an option is already being considered in which the Games will be shown only in television mode. That will help satisfy multi-million dollar television contracts.
The Daily Mail claims that such a decision would be an alternative to the cancellation or rescheduling of the Games. Say, Japan, which has invested about 12 billion dollars in their training, intends to keep the Games under any condition.
