“Friendship” starts
The Russian sailing season of cruising yachting opens in Sevastopol on May 1 with the regatta “Friendship 2019”
The jubilee, the fifth all-Russian regatta "Friendship" already traditionally opens the sailing season of cruising yachts of Russia. A feature of the competition is participation in the regatta of joint crews from different parts of our country. More than 160 yachtsmen from Moscow and the Moscow Region, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Taganrog, Saratov, Novorossiysk, Sochi, Sevastopol and Kerch gathered in the hero city.
The races will be held in the classes of yachts Open 800, Quarter Ton, SB20 and in the ORC test group of yachts 30-35 ft. In the Open 800 class, competitions will be held in the status of the Russian Cup stage. For the third consecutive year, boats of this national class have been participating in Druzhba, and this year the fleet of participants promises serious replenishment, and about ten of Russia's strongest crew are planning to take part. Quarter-toners are the founders of the regatta, it is in this class that joint crews perform. Yachts of the ORC group with a length of 30-35 ft are already large cruising yachts, newcomers to the “Friendship” regatta. The group promises to be not numerous, but very bright.
The general route of the regatta will exceed 100 nautical miles, the competitions provide for a series of short (port) races in the internal roads of Sevastopol and 6 coastal day stages along the route Sevastopol – Balaklava – b. Laspi – Balaclava – b. Cossack – b. Streletskaya – Sevastopol. The regatta will last from May 1 to May 7, 2019
“Our main goal is the strengthening of friendly relations and the exchange of experience between yachtsmen of Sevastopol and other regions of Russia,” says Dmitry Zhayvoronok, vice-president of the Open 800 Yacht Class Association. “Popularizing sailing as a healthy and active lifestyle, developing the attractiveness of the region and the Black Sea area for sailing and yachting tourism, as well as demonstrating to the participants and guests of the regatta the unique features of Sevastopol and Crimea: history, culture and nature of the region.”
As part of the regatta, the first running trials on the water will be presented and aroused great interest in the sailing community of the mX700, a new Russian project of a sports sailing yacht designed and built at the Mobile Group shipyard in St. Petersburg. The project was developed in close cooperation with experienced designers and professional athletes, whose goal was to create a universal, easy-to-manage sports equipment for racing and for yachting training, increasing the popularity of sailing in Russia, making it accessible to a wide range of people of any age.
The event was organized by the Sevastopol Sailing Federation, the Quarter Ton Fleet Association, the Open 800 Class Association, Sport Fleet LLC with the support of the Sports Center (maritime and physical training Sevastopol) of the Federal Aviation Administration of the Russian Federation CSKA.
